    • Is there any symbols used by vegetarians? If so, what?
    • Is there any slang associated with vegetarians? Or slang that you use?

Are there different vegetarian groups? What group would you put yourself in?
Yes there are lacto-ovo vegetarians and vegans. I would be a lacto-ovo vegetarian because I eat cheese and even though I don't usually eat dairy products or eggs, I eat products with dairy and egg in them.

Is there any difference between these groups?
    Yes.

Why did you become a vegetarian?
The first time was because of the way animals were treated. The second time I just found it very strange to eat meat so I stopped, and a number of reasons followed me.

When or at what age did you become a vegetarian? How long have you been a vegetarian?
At 13, I was a vegetarian for a year. Then I was vegetarian again when I was 18 and have been for a year and a half.

What is the first step to becoming a vegetarian?
Research how to have a balanced diet and reasons why it benefits you.

    What is your favorite food?
    Indian food.

Are you concerned about the purchases you make? Does that affect the clothing that you wear?
Yeah I stay away from animal products in clothing, it is kind of an aquired thing when you go vegetarian.

What types of music do you listen to?
    All kinds.

What kinds of food do you eat?
Healthy foods, I like food from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

How do you spend your free time?
    Hang out with people, art.

Do you spend time watching TV? If so, what do you watch and how long to you spend time watching TV?
Not much time, but I like That 70's Show, the L Word, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Daily Show, the Colbert Report.

Do you ever watch movies? If so, what movies?
I love movies. Lots of movies..

Is there any symbols used by vegetarians? If so, what?
    Not that I know of.

Is there any slang associated with vegetarians? Or slang that you use?
No not that I know of.

What do you eat on American holidays that have food traditions such as turkey on Thanksgiving? What traditions do you have?
I eat vegetarian stuffing, and mashed pototoes, and whatever else there is that is vegetarian... I get less full and bloated that way, I like it. Same traditions.

What is considered wrong and right behavior in your opinion?
I feel its wrong to neglect people and not care about people, I think its right to care about other people and living things and the environment.

What is your moral code Ð what you consider right or wrong?
    Same.

Who would you consider to by your ÒenemyÓ (group (s) that opposes vegetarians)?
I don't want enemies. But I would say factory farms, big corporations, big fast food corporations, hunters.

What do you believe is the role of the government? What would you say in the main purpose of the government is?
To set laws and rights into action, making sure people are getting their rights, taking responsibility for things that harm people, animals, the environment, and doing something about it.

What is your opinion on these issues facing America:
¤ Oil mining in Alaska: Don't know much about it

¤ Animal rights: Animals do not have equal rights at all and its not fair.

¤ Animal testing: Animal testing is okay in some situations if it is to research a life threatening condition. But it is not okay for beauty products and other products and useless research.

¤ Environment: I think we have the responsibility to care for the environment.

¤ Global Warming: I think the unnatural things we do could have an effect on the environment and it is happening. I don't know how serious it is right now though but it could be serious at some point.

What political party do you most connect with? (Democratic, Republican, 3rd Party, etc.)
    Democrat I guess

Did you vote in the last local, state, or federal election? If so, what election?
    State

What do you want or hope to do in the future?
I want to help people and I want to do art and have my own coffee shop.

How do you see America in the future?
I'm not sure, I think the liberal mindset will take over. But it might just be the same divided battle that we have today.

What do you want America to become?
I want equality for all American citizens. I want people to think. I want people to live compassionately and ban factory farms and grow hemp farms.

How is your life different than that of vegetarians portrayed on TV or in movies?
Everyone is different, vegetarians don't all have the same traits. I haven't seen vegetarians in movies or television have the same persona.

Are there different vegetarian groups? What group would you put yourself in?
    Hmm guess so, ovo-lacto vegetarian
Is there any difference between these groups?
Yes, regarding what they eat (e.g eggs/dairy) and their reasons behind it (e.g health, ethical, enviromental etc).
Why did you become a vegetarian?
    Ethical reasons
When or at what age did you become a vegetarian? How long have you been a vegetarian?
    18 (June 2003) ... four years.
What is the first step to becoming a vegetarian?
Depends on the reasons behind the choice, but probably developing an awareness of the meat industry practises.
    What is your favorite food?
Italian food in general, berries, hummus, vegetable soups
Are you concerned about the purchases you make? Does that affect the clothing that you wear?
To a certain extent. I don't buy leather, fur, silk, fur, faux fur*. Also try to where possible to buy fair trade/organic items.
*as it looks like fur, so to me that implies fur is still desirable.
What types of music do you listen to?
All kinds ... but mostly 60s-70s & country
What kinds of food do you eat?
Anything that appeals, fairly healthy I suppose.
How do you spend your free time?
    Reading, writing, socialising, cooking/baking
Do you spend time watching TV? If so, what do you watch and how long to you spend time watching TV?
Some, an hour a day maybe. Just shows I enjoy (CSI, Greys anatomy, House), and other things if my family are watching them too.
Do you ever watch movies? If so, what movies?
Yes, all kinds. I like comedies and historical/biopics best.
Is there any symbols used by vegetarians? If so, what?
Hmm not really. Aside from a V (on food products), and those related to animal rights groups.
Is there any slang associated with vegetarians? Or slang that you use?
Veg*an (shorthand for 'vegetarian/vegan'), veg, omni (meat eaters, short for omnivore)
What do you eat on American holidays that have food traditions such as turkey on Thanksgiving? What traditions do you have?
I don't celebrate thanksgiving (non-American) ... but for Christmas and occasions like that I just prepare my own vegetarian entree, then have the same side dishes as everyone else.
What is considered wrong and right behavior in your opinion?
It's wrong to harm or discriminate against others, and right to be honest/helpful/compassionate etc.
What is your moral code – what you consider right or wrong?
    That I suppose
Who would you consider to be your “enemy” (group (s) that opposes vegetarians)?
No one group in particular, aside from the meat industry I suppose. There are intolerant people, but they're just individuals.

What do you believe is the role of the government? What would you say in the main purpose of the government is?
To ensure the country is run efficently and the laws are made/upheld in a way which benefits the citizens.
What is your opinion on these issues facing America:
Oil mining in Alaska: I don't know much about it.
Animal rights: Animals should have rights which are then upheld.
Animal testing: Should be outlawed for cosmestics and other non-essentials, and better regulated for medicines. And to develop accurate non-animal methods.
Environment: It's our responsibility to slow/reverse the damage.
    Global Warming: same I guess
What political party do you most connect with? (Democratic, Republican, 3rd Party, etc.)
Liberal Democrat [UK party] ... if I was American I'd probably vote Democrat.
Did you vote in the last local, state, or federal election? If so, what election?
    Local (2006, I think)
What do you want or hope to do in the future?
Be a successful writer, travel, have/raise a family
How do you see America in the future?

Umm maybe not much diffrent; it's getting worse, but might improve.
What do you want America to become?
    A better place overall.
How is your life different than that of vegetarians portrayed on TV or in movies?

Hmm no idea, can't really think of any examples.
