Goin to New York City, tattoo there?

Hey,

I don't know anything about tattoo culture really. Just the idea and design of the tattoo I want to get. I'm going to New York City for a couple months, and am wondering if there are culturally/historically well known places? If these places don't scream, "We fuckin rock" then I don't want to get mine done there. I'd like for the people to be genuine as titties and good people. I'm also going to Toronto in December, and I'm willing to wait to goto the right place to get my tattoo. I'm also thinking about a Haitian tattoo.

Anyone got some know-how to share with me? Thanks.
