Hey, today I was informed that we are going to start making clay projects in my visual arts class. So I have decided to make a teapot disguised bong. Keep in mind I have never smoked out of a real bong before, so I would like to know if this basic schematic would work and if it would work well.

From a standard teapot it would use a decor at the top of the handle which would actually be a bowl. Then the spout where the tea would come out of would be the mouthpiece. Would this work well, am I missing things?

Is there anything else I should do or ideas to consider? I could have the mouthpiece come out as the lid handle. Im going to make it as cool looking as possible with the basic schematic. Thanks for any help or ideas. [IMG]

I kind of think if you had a handle that came out, you could use that as the mouthpiece. I would personally want the spout where the tea usually comes out to be the downstem. Make sure the whole with the spout is wide enough gauge for a 12/14mm glass stem.

But, if you had the lid as the bowl/downstem then you could just take the whole lid off when you're ready to hit it, and if you had the spout as the mouthpiece then you would likely get water in your mouth, which sucks.

Make sure when you are inhaling through your makeshift mouthpiece it won't be airtight - so that it doesn't act like a straw for bong water.

a guy i know was into the ceramics classes and such and made a pretty bitchin bong that eventually broke.

it was, like you intend, disguised as a teapot.

the spout was the mouthpiece, the lid was the bowl and downstem.

the handle on the lid (rather than the handle on the teapot) was hollow and conical, and elongated.

it would help if you designed it so the entire thing was elongated, stretched looking, and looked like it all went together, less suspicious that way. also not a bad idea to have the hollow, elongated lid closed at the "top" (the real "bottom" which will be submerged in water) and then broke it open later when the piece was finished and out of the school. less suspicious looking.

unless you're experienced with working with clay, or else have a natural talent for it, i wouldnt suggest attempting this piece unless youre throwing it...using a coil method or something like that is bound to be bad news. there will be far less chance of getting a passably snug seal around the bowl otherwise...if there is an air leak around the top, then it won't hit properly at all.

i also suggest using a screen, and trying to make the teapot more tall and spindly and awkward than short and squat and utilitarion. it has to look like an unusual, fantastic artistic rendition of a common, everyday item rather than a common, everyday item. the lid handle has to be long enough to extend into the water, and that would just look too wierd as a normally proportioned teapot, i'd think. if done properly and with tact, you can definitely get away with making an awesome bong and also an awesome art piece which will get you a good grade.

    btw, only use food-grade glaze

I made a clay bong last year in Art class. If u make them right they turn out quite well, You should make your self a quick picture of what u want it to look like on paint or sumthing, then go from there, u should glaze them with something as well b 4 u are done.

teachers are not that dumb they'll probably break it and send you down to the office. At least thats what happened at my school. But if you think you can get away with it go for it.
