I'm 17, & I'm thinking about getting on the pill, Yaz. I have really, really awful cramps & I've read that the pill helps this, along with regulating your period since I'm very irregular as well (mostly because of weed.) It really isn't good to be on these hormone things, will it effect me negatively such as weight gain or maybe skin breakouts? Is that common, or do I just need to be older?

when u say Yaz do u mean Yasmine? thats what i am on, ive been on other pills and this one was the only one that didnt make me put on weight!

I went on the pill at 15 so dont worry about 17 being too young! :)

I found I had no symptoms at all, in fact I think I experienced weight loss, but I have also been experiencing a strange loss in appetite - yesterday I didn't eat all day!!! it was crazy!!! I didn't even notice till this morning!! - and I was on Marvelon - I think thats how its spelled. although I'm forgettful so i switched to the patch :p it might just be me, or my body adapting to the horomones but the arm i put it on feels funny lol I think its just the placebo affect tho, and I'm just thinking things

dont go on the pill unless you want to have unprotected sex.
    seriously. i made that mistake.
i went on the pill at 15 for irregular periods and it fucked with my body real bad.
i went from being petite with no breasts to wide hips and giant stretched marked breasts.

now it wasnt just a growth spurt. thats what we all thought coz i was about time for one. but my mum and my sisters are all small with small boobs. i recently went off the pill and i was amazed at how clear my mind suddenly was. i lost a lot of weight and my hormones went back to normal.

its such a bad desicion to go on the pill if you dont need to.
i know its a bit of a fun thing to do and it sounds good.
    well
thats what i have to say.

I wouldn't limit your options to just Yasmin, if I were you. Sometimes you have to try a few different pills, to find the right one...and that includes avoiding nausea, skin breakouts, weight gain, or other side affects.

I've had a lot of sucess with Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo, but have tried several other pills before, that didn't agree so well with me.

If you're simply looking to get on the pill to control your period... I would try other things, FIRST. Because you are 17, and it is common to have more irregular, and intense periods...

If you think you're irregular from smoking weed, wouldn't you rather try stopping smoking weed, instead of taking a pill when you don't necessarily need to be, if other things would help? Are you more concerned about the effects of birth control, or more concerned about continuing smoking weed and having irregular periods as a result?

Also, for cramps and such... evaluate how you are handling them now, and try other things, if you haven't already. Heat is good... I have a heating pad that can be shoved in the microwave (reuseable, as not to waste my money on the adhesive disposable ones)and I just throw that on my abdomen. I'd rather take some Aleve, than be consistently on birth control (except, I am on birth control FOR BIRTH control, so I dont have that choice)

Some teas can help... if you're more into natural remedies.

Do you use tampons? I've found that tampons can actually increase the severity of cramps... try using pads, or getting a DivaCup.

What kinds of things do you eat when you get your period? If you eat anything that is going to give you gas, anyway, (i.e. carbonated drinks and such), your cramps are going to be worse. Drink lots of water, get lots of rest, eat a healthy diet, use heat...

Try that first, then consider birth control.
If you're sexually active though, then that's another story, and I'd advise you to look into birth control, anyway, in that case.

To regulate your periods, it can take up to a few months.
To protect you from pregnancy, about a week...and in the meantime you are asked to use a backup form (condoms)--which I think you should do, anyway, all the time.

That's odd. Birth control has helped my skin a lot, in regards to pre-menstrual breakouts and such.... I used to be incredibly acne prone, before going on the pill.

It affects everyone differently though, and different pills affect different people in different ways... so it's difficult to advise anyone this way or that way in this case.

I'm on Yaz...it does make your periods shorter and more predictible, but I find that any BC pill makes you gain weight rather than lose. As for acne...BC cleared my skin and my friends skin (she also takes Yaz) so no pimples here*: )

All I can say is never again! Yasmine wrecked my body. I went from tall in thin to like a Beyonce body, Dolly Parto boobs, almost overnight. Not too mention all of the other gross side effects, such a s hot flashes, a mustashe, and fat stomach. Though it is nice to have no pregnancy scares, but I know his damage to my body from this crappy hormone was not worth it at all. Beware of the psychological side effects too. I was an irritable mess that my fiance probably thoght was a mess. Oh yeah, it made me nympho too

Many people have linked his to depressive or anxiety and panic attack symptoms- that sucks in my opinion. After starting yasmin, personally, i have been on several medications for depression and never had depression before. I never knew that yasmin had played a role in the pscyh problems until I did a little research. Also, Chack this one out about other girls and Yasmin

I'm on Yaz also, I love it! I can never find people online who are on it, most think I mean yasmin. My first month or two on it was rocky, like the 1st week I was sick as if I were pregnant, like smells made me feel like I was going to throw up and stuff, and I gained like 10 pounds, but you really can't tell..I think it all went to my boobs (which got bigger), and my skin has been spotless except when I take the fake pills when I'm more prone to getting a pimple but if I do get pimples it's my fault because I'll pick at a blemish or something, and I think in my 3rd pack or second, I started my period one pill before the fake ones, and it lasted longer than 4 days..but that's it....so I'd say Yaz rocks, and my period lasts for not even 4 full days, which is amazing! instead of going through one box of tampons per period, it's one for every two..awesome!

Hey everyone, play safe - use a condom every time. Your partner is only as clean as their last one before you!!
