Does the word "partner" really grate you?

I think of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. I mean it can get lonely out on the range, and Tonto really knew how to pitch a tent.

But yes, I think that referring to your 'other' as 'partner' sounds rather cold. If you're not comfortable saying 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend' for whatever reason, even saying 'life partner' is better than just 'partner', but even then, I think it's odd. Kind of sounds blunt and lifeless.

 

I think life partner's just as bad as partner.
partner is like treading on eggshells just for gays , and meaning you have to actively tell people u arent gay - then u get branded a homophobe , which ok I am .

Life partner is like saying any relationship means fuck all unless youre stuck with them til theyre old and wrinkled and hideously misformed

I like the suggestion to say "she aint my partner shes my fuckfriend"

 

Very often tied. As in ashamed and in denial, for some strange reason. Types with issues. Just sayin...

i think 'life partner' is supposed to refer to a partner in life.

 

I hate the term partner. I think it sounds way too dry and I never seem to like people that use it...chance? maybe but i don't think so

another thing i like about the term life partner is that it is respectful. mutual respect is important, don't you think?

i don't much like the term 'wife'...all those crappy jokes, like 'take my wife...PLEASE!!!' have pretty much ruined that one...and the fact that the term 'housewife' makes it seem like she's married to the house...
