I got no respect for hired guns. Dogs of war. War profiteers, or anybody who leeches off the taxpayer. Bring our people home and let's mind out own damn business. x
Word on the network news stations is that Rice and the Administration say that the State Department cannot operate without Blackwater's services. They need them for security since using the US military would put too much of a strain on our resources. If you buy that I have a bridge I could sell you. I think they want their own private guns incase the American people reach a point where they've had enough.
I am not sure the Iraqis are going to back down. I find it strange that there may be more private contractors in Iraq than there are military forces. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/04/AR2006120401311.html Wasn't it private contractors that trained the prison guards at Abu Ghraib? Were any of them prosecuted? How many private contractors have been casualties? How many Iraqi civilians have been killed by them? Can they initiate violence, without oversight? Who pays their salaries? Does the American taxpayer, and if so shouldn't there be some accountability? Blackwater aren't the only ones out there, they may be the sexiest at the moment. http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=12542 How will this war ever end if we aren't clear on exactly who is fighting it, or controlling the escalating violence? Maybe once the PSAs are signed the mercenaries will be called off. How do we know what is being called sectarian violence isn't violence orchestrated by some sort of corporate goal to force the Iraqis to sign papers that aren't in their best interests? Maybe these are some questions to ask all the presidential candidates. I'd like to hear their answers, instead of letting them bribe me with empty promises of health care, which most of the programs just add up to a windfall for the insurance companies in the mandating of individuals to purchase insurance. I'd prefer to know just how much they each know about this war on terrorism that is costing us all billions and the lives of our children. I don't put stock in empty promises from them looking after the welfare of my family.
If you'd minded your own damn business in the first place you wouldn't need to bring 'em home. By destroying a country's infrastructure and starting a bloody civil war you have an obligation to sort out the mess you (the hypothetical you of course, not you personally lol) created. To go in, fuck it up, then leave it in a worse state than when you arrived is not on. Besides, the US won't leave as the invasion was an economic move not a political one, the dollar's worth is still falling, money's got to come from somewhere and Iraq is rich in natural resources and places to privatise and sell out to western corporations... Gardener- You should watch a film called Iraq for Sale it brings up many of the things you mention and is a good watch if you've a spare hour or so. It's here at google video: http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-6621486727392146155
Ever heard of the Worldwide Personal Protective Service (WPPS) program? Who approved this? Were the American people/taxpayers advised of it's scope? http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0811-20.htm Just who is getting rich? Is this Bush's version of the SS?
Damn congress all they are recommending for Blackwater is a tightening up of oversight regulations. What is that going to accomplish? Who's going to provide the oversight the State Department. The State Department's investigation report ended up being written by a Blackwater employee. They should be pulled if for no other reason than the outrageous amount of money we are paying this firm and the other private security firms. Not to mention that they have been responsible for the escalation of violence. This congress has no balls.
Iraq's prime minister ordered Blackwater out, then Bush reminded him of Order 17, issued in 2004 by the American occupying authority. This order protects Blackwater, Dyncorp, Triple Canopy and other corporate forces immunity from Iraqi laws. Nor are they subject to US military law. http://www.cpa-iraq.org/regulations/20040627_CPAORD_17_Status_of_Coalition__Rev__with_Annex_A.pdf
Some here on the board have brought that up many times. Maybe soon we can put a leash on this pitbull, before it does become the next SS Guard.
Blackwater is going to be out of Iraq, soon. The US has finally been able to claim success in certain areas, and look forward to continuing this trend. They do not need this tarnish now. It will have nothing to do with excessive use of force and civilian shootings. Washington at its best.
Oh boy am I proud. They used their SS guard to gain what little they have and you are now all puffed up about it. We are supposed to forget that those excess ever occurred right?
