A component often missed in emotional problems is nutrition. If you are eating a lot of junk food, sugar, fast food your mind is not going to function well and your emotions can easily get all screwed up. Also tobacco can cause this, especially in people of your age, caffeine, weed, alcohol and of course any kind of drugs or speed. If any of this fits you then you may need to learn about what is good nutrition and what is not and make the changes.

Try to hold on through those tough times. Many of us have been through this. You are probably in a difficult period of your life which will pass. Try to find things and people that make you happy and try the best you can to be good to others. Your life is surely valuable to someone if only yourself. Taking it would be a mistake there is no coming back from.

Best wishes and hang in there.

You have to live... your mission is to overcome your demons so you can help others who are dealing with their own emotional nightmares.

You're quite obviously very intelligent and could really have a ton to offer people if you can prevail in coping with your own issues. Educating yourself about depression and its possible treatments will not only help you but put you in a position to offer others a way out of their hells.

Hey Twizz thought Id offer my thoughts, yer probably sick of the various recommendations of the last few posts, notwitstanding their best of intentions, and I know mediation has been mentioned already but listen , buy yerself a decent book on how to do it, like How to Meditate by Laurence Leshan is excellent, very practical, simple & easy to use without a lot of the new age bullshit that can be assoiated with meditation, and if you do it properly you'll be SHOCKED by how effective it is.....man it really works. - will open up a new world for you..

I agree. When I first started meditating it was frustrating because it would take almost an HOUR to clear my mind so it was just frustrating. But now I do it almost daily because it is soooo helpful!!

It's realxing, helps you see the beauty in life, calms your soul, teaches self control, feeling more inner peace, and soo much more.

I mean in the past 6 months I lost my car, my apartment, all my money, and my father is in the hospital with terminal brain cancer but I am very much more Optimistic now after learning the art of Zen Meditation.

My father is facing the greatest experience in this world! He is going on to a much better existance after this one and he will no longer be in pain, I am saving up for another car, and will be moving in 2 months, life changes, all the time. And just like my mother always says "This too shall pass". Materialistic life is not worth it, people are all that matter in this world, remember that always...

Warm thoughts and Healing energy for you and your journey Brother.

Well, I think so far you have got some good feedback. I suffer from depression too and know only too well the feelings you have been describing.
.......................................................(sorry about the wierd editing...it isn't letting me enter spaces for some odd reason but I'll try to make it easier to read some way or another)
    ............................................................
.......I'm not much for answers and can only offer my understanding and experience, since I am in the same boat a lot of the time myself.
    ....................................
........I do think you are on the right track as far as trimming the drug use down to pot and tobacco...maybe even knock off the tobacco when you feel strong enough..maybe replace it with some kind of exercise--running or something.
    .....................
........I don't know much about bi polar, but I lived with a friend who has it who used a lot of coke, speed and alcohol, and it seemed obvious (to me, at least,) that those drugs made things a lot worse.
    ................
........Pot can dump you a bit too when you run out or your tolerance gets too high, but it's a lot easier to ride out than the drop you get from something like coke or alcohol, and it can really lift your spirits when you are really down.
......................................................................................... ........... I really like what man on the hill said, especially about people being what matters. I'm a total looser in this materialistic society's way of seeing things, but I have solid friends, and when I am in my right mind I realize that I am a rich man for that despite my not having a pot to piss in--so to speak.
    ........................
..........Depression warps your perception though and tells you you are worthless and a failure and the world would be better off without you etc. The only advice I could really give (and i'm not saying I follow it that well myself--though I'm getting better at it) is don't listen to what depression tells you.
    ......................
..........No matter how much you feel like a failure when you are depressed, don't believe it. Because really, you don't know. You may have saved a life or two already and don't even know it.
    ...................
...........You are not worthless just because you are struggling with a mental illness. In fact, your having experienced deep depression puts you in a position to have understanding of people with similar problems that people who have never been there don't have, and just that could easily save a life.
    ....................
................You don't have to have the answers, just being there for someone and empathizing and not saying things that people who haven't been there often say such as "Quit feeling sorry for yourself." or "Get off the pity pot." and crap like that, can easily save a life!
    .......................
..........You are a valuable part of this world--no matter what your depression tells you! Just keep being you and keep trying to help wherever you can and the world will be better for having you in it, whether you finish school or not, whether you are "successful" by society's way of seeing things or not, because society can't judge you and neither can you.
    .........................................
...........Well, I'm going on and on, but give yourself a break, you're a good person. Hang in there. Love ya man, good luck.

Groove cookie has powerful and wise words. I totally agree with everything you said. And as far as this world sees me I am a complete loser too. i don't buy into the "Rat race to death" crap they pull. Education and so called "grades"????

I have a very select group of just a couple people who are my BEST FRIENDS IN THE WORLD,, I really have nothing else, I work 6-2:30 to pay the bills and live my life, I make time for people, and always try to have a beautiful set.....

That's another thing I have noticed lately. Your set (surroundings) does have a large impact on your mood bro. Like for instance when i was in my depression after the car accident addicted to percoset's having withdrawls when my script ran out didn't have a job laying in bed all day it was soooo depressing I wanted to end it all because i didn't think it would ever get better.....i went to the park to meditate for the first time in months and just being in that atmoshere (fresh air, sunlight, people, animals, life) it totally cheered me up :)

What i'm saying is if your in your room all the time or cooped up in the house go out! I mean if your not a party kinda guy (which i'm not either) go to the park, go for a jog, take your guitar outside and play whatever comes to mind, just relaxing, stress free activities and I PROMISE YOU,,,, you will see a difference :)

That's good advice 4 me 2 ! It's been days now since I left the house and I only live about 300 yards from a beautiful beach. A lot of people don't knowthat exposure to daylight also is a factor in depression.
There is a condition called "seasonal affective disorder" which affects a lot of people --especially in geographical areas where there isn't as much daylight. There is a higher suicide rate in such areas too. Western WA (where I live, as luck would have it) is one of the worst because of all the cloudy weather.

Ah erm that would be a pretty good fuckin reason right there. My advice is to wear a lot of black clothing and do a Gothic number, this is nothing but the teenage angst thing thats been going round ever since James Dean did Rebel without a cause. Its nothing new, and you'll get over it when you realise that there is a woman that wants to have kids for you after all, but to reach that last bit you gotta stop being some dreamy ass teenage mope head

One of the shitty things about being a teen is that no matter how bad you may feel, it's all made light of because you are a teenager. I wouldn't make a habit of assuming someones problems aren't real because of their age.

if you must kill yourself, try doing it psychollogically with a couple tabs of good LSD or 1/8th of shrooms before doing it physically

i know psychological death certainly gave me a new will on life, cause, it's not really -you- that wants to die, It's just your current ego, which your mistaking as -you-. All you want is all aspects of your current self, you current ego, to die. Which you do know, your ego is not -you-, you do not have to kill your physical body to kill all aspects that you know as -self-. Your ego can be completely changed and re-programmed by your will. Just make sure if you ever do crack open your ego, your put a permenant component of "never lose the intangible will to live" and "what is down will come up" in there.

I definitely agree...if a person has a choice of commiting suicide or trying the psychedelic experience, trying the psychedelic experience at least has a chance offering a solution, or at least a new perspective.
I keep hearing people repeat the mantra "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem." I think it's the opposite. It's a temporary solution to a permanent problem because life goes on in one form or another and to live is to suffer.

I just can't understand..You got problems, we all got problems, some worse than other. But how can someone be SO F**ING SELFISH to take their own life.

How can you hurt all the people you care about and care about you. Many suicidal people think that "OH THE WORLD WILL BE BETTER WITHOUT ME" thats bullshit.

    1. the world turns with or without you so the only person your life matters to is you.
2.would you REALLY want to put your mother, father, brother, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend, friends, classmates, and everybody that you know through the pain of seeing someone they care about END THEIR OWN LIFE!!!!

I cant get over this thread it RIPS my heart apart.

My friend Mike in high school selfishly killed himself in high school (3 years ago). On his suicide note it just went on about how no one cares and he gets fucked every which way by everybody and yadda yadda yadda, and in the end I'm STILL madd at him for what he did. He destroyed his mother's heart, tore his dad up, at his viewing, almost EVERYSINGLE PERSON IN OUR SCHOOL showed up because they all kew him/knew of him in some way.

And at this very moment you reading this, he would be 21, living life, outta school, probly in college or out of college, g/f, car, apt, EVERYTHING, becuause once your out of high schoool,,,,,, your OUT of high school, and most people dont REALize that.

I can't explain, I can never explain the hurt that's involved for EVERYONE around you. If one of your friends kills themselves, you will know how it feels to be on the outside dude.

I hear ya man. You know, a lot of people fall into a place where no one ever tells them they love them or care about them....even if they feel it, they just don't express it and the person can get depressed and the depression is telling them that no one loves them, and no one else is telling them otherwise, so the depression grows and maybe the person suicides.

Then everyone is pissed at the person for doing it because they loved the person so much, but they never showed it when it mattered. So it's really important to let your light shine and show your love to everyone you care about every chance you get.
