Just thought I'd remind everyone that it's THE BEST SEASON EVER and to get out there and enjoy it. One of my favourite barefoot experiences is to walk on the thick carpet of coloured leaves that pile up on the ground this time of year...damn they're so soft and crunchy. I'm going to see if I can get some autumn leaf pictures up sometime this week, if anyone else has some please share and let us know what part of the world we're looking at. Or just share something about your adventures. Or just be happy.
Here in Micronesia, we're in what is historically the last month of our rainy season (the precipitation begins to drop off, although it can rain any time) and by the end of this month, the trade winds should kick up, heralding the beginning of SAILING SEASON! We'll soon see many days that look like this: This is where we'll be flying the hulls in a 15 knot wind all day...can't wait for it to begin.
Oh that is gorgeous seohsreven, I can almost hear the waves. Eh...I still don't have a picture yet...sorry. Still hoping to get one though.
That first picture looks just like the island that was shown on the 1960's sitcom "Gilligan's Island".
Unfortunately, where I live there is a 50% chance that it snows in October, so barefooting weather is pretty much done by about now in the month. Every day it's in the 50's and I don't have time to go barefoot due to school and all the other activities I'm in. My feet are now about as tender as they were in June or so... *sigh* I can't wait for next summer, though, now that I have a primer for what it's like...
Well, not quite: The first image is Sandy Cay, Bahamas, the island which was used in the original 1963 pilot version of the program. The second image is of Coconut Island, or Mokuoloe in Oahu's Kaneohe Bay, which was used for the second and third seasons. The third island is MaƱagaha Island in the Northern Mariana Islands. I shot this image from my Kayak in March, 2007. Sailing season opened last weekend. We had a great day running the breadth of the lagoon, racing ahead of the afternoon squals, and talking story over cold beverages at the beachside bar & grille on the beach that we can sail right up to. It's still raining massively almost every day; we received 6" in a four-hour period the day before yesterday. This makes for some slippery barefooting, especially over the natural stones lining the walkway to our house. Deep puddles make things interesting, but for the most part fun, as the water and air are all around 28C. It's also pretty fun to walk in the rain barefoot this time of year, because the storms tend to be very intense but short and the sun feels marvelous when it comes out again.
I don't see October snow as a problem since it is short lived, and there is bound to be a warm break or two between such snows. Also, I've shown that in Maine, the early and very late spring snows aren't much of a problem to one who is active. Of course, being in the snow all the time could be a problem. Too long is too long. I manage mostly to need to cut across snow areas, and back into sunny, open areas, at this time of year, if it snows.
