So my boyfriend and I have determined I've acquired a bit of a bladder infection/uti. I was just wondering if anyone had any good at home remedies? We've already started me on cranberry juice and lots of hydration, but any other tips? Any ideas to make any burning or itching go away? Any help would be greatly appreciated, sex is really no fun now (cuz it hurts like crazy) and the uncomfy-ness is about to drive me insane!
First, to take care of the discomfort when you pee, go to the drugstore and pick yourself up a box of Azo Standard. The main ingredient (phenazopyridine) is the same stuff your doctor is likely to give you for the pain relief. It relaxes your bladder muscles and allows you to fully empty your bladder, which is crucial in fighting off the infection. It'll turn your pee bright orange though, just a warning. Second, bladder infections are one of the few things that I think are really important to go to the doctor for. Drinking lots of water and cranberry juice is great, and keep doing that, but they won't get rid of it. You really need the proper antibiotics to fight the infection as fast as possible before it spreads and gets worse. A basic antibiotic is all you need.
from experience I know that once you have an infection there, you need to go to the doctor and get antibiotics. There are things to do in the future to help prevent them, like cranberry juice and lots of water, and cleanin stuff off down there after sex. But once there's an infection, you'll need anitbiotics to kill the infection. If you let it go, it has chance of spreading up to your kidneys, which is very bad.
Thank you guys. I found out I do have health insurance (after my dad let me go thinking I was pregnant...well, he didn't know that, but telling me I had no insurance to go to the doctor. Bah!) and my brother has a bit of the flu of sorts so, I figure I'll have my dad schedule us both appointments on the same day (our doctors are both an hour's drive from here). I do think it's already started to kick into my kidneys (they've been giving me trouble on and off for a bit now) and I really don't wanna go into renal failure or something over something as silly as a UTI.
That's good about the health insurance. Good luck and hope you feel better soon! Did you try the Azo?
if your kidneys are infected you will feel it...it will be very sore on both sides more towards your back. good luck, UTIs suck planned parenthood usually can help you with stuff like that (you'd still have to pay for the prescription)..just someting to think about if you ever dont have insurance
Good tip, 3little birds. Planned Parenthood was a lifesaver a couple years back when I kept having recurring UTI's. I actually didn't end up having to pay anything, but that all depends on current income, etc.
Good news! I think the infection is almost gone (my love has been filling me full of green tea...he's so sweet) because the irritation and pain is pretty much obsolete and my bladder no longer hurts. I'll continue a strong regimen of fluids (mainly water, cranberry juice, and unsweetened green tea) for a few days and I know next time one occurs to definitely go to the doctor, but I think this time my body (and a little extra help from healthy liquids) took care of itself. Thanks you guys for your help and if it pops up again anytime soon, off to the doctor for sure.
there are other things that cause the same symptoms as a bladder infection. Make sure to have them take a culture before agreeing to take any antibiotics. Recurrent UTI's means there is some other issue that needs to be addressed that is either causing them, or causing symptoms similar to a UTI. If recurring UTI symptoms correspond to your monthly cycles, that is a big warning sign that it is not a bacterial infection but something else instead.
in addition to what was mentioned above, slippery elm and aloe vera juice! and garlic!(hehe garlic for everything) drink lots of it, even after you think its gone, because it might come back! i just got over the nastiest of utis a few months ago, it went up into my kidneys and all. beware: rough sex can bring it back! you and your lover would benefit from washing your hoohas before and after humping. im still drinking aloe, becasue after the whole uti fiasco, im left with this issue where i pee a little a lot. from laughing, sneezing, having an orgasm.... so try to keep your ut clean before it comes to peeing your pants! <3
I have that currently and I made the mistake of doing it with my bf this morning. I thought I was gonna be ok so I thought it'd be a groovy idea. Stupid I know. Now I have blood in my urine. My sis says it'll pass just keep away from sex til ur back to normal. I also go to the doc on monday. Damn I hate this. When I get back to normal, if I ever do, I'm staying away from sex for good just in case it happens again....
Yes, don't let this thing go one without a visit to the doctor. I went two weeks once I began to get pains spreading to my upper legs. The next step would have been my kidneys. Nothing to joke about!!
I don't know if this should go here but my urine has a lubricant odor to it? But it doesn't burn when I urinate or anything so I dunno what's going on. Someone help ASAP?
Can you describe the odor more? Is it foul-smelling? Are you sure it's coming from your urine (as opposed to a vaginal discharge, etc.)? Has your diet changed at all recently, or have you had any weird systemic illnesses? Any back pain of any kind?
Nope. Diet seems pretty normal I'd say. I can only blame it on sex really if that's plausible lol. But I looked it up and seems like I might have bacteria?
