Is it bad for them if they eat their own shit??

Dogs have something in their bodies that allows them to consume...er....shit, and not die or get raging sick. I wouldnt say it's good for them....but a little shit every now and then wont hurt. When I catch my dog doing it, I just say no in a stern voice....and she knows what I mean. If she is going to say outside around the shit with no supervision then you might want to go scoop it up and throw it into the garabe........or the neighbors yard

 

throw the shit away??? or keep it stashed, and give her turd treats

 

be glad you don't have a kitty litter box - like a box of chocolates to a puppy! nuthin like puppy cat shit breath - phew!!!!

but no, i don't think a dog ever died from eatin shit.

 

actually, Parvo and Ecoli are big killers of dogs and puppies and are easily given to animals when exposed to feces. Ecoli comes from feces. Parvo is contracted many ways via body fluids..ect. Whenever the SPCA does a bust on a puppy mill and the dogs have Parvo..they also note all the piss and shit that the animals are wading in.

Letting your animals eat poo is not safe. They may like it but it can kill them or atleast make them very ill.

There is no nutritional value in shit either..would you let your dog eat sugar? no. because it's not healthy for him. so why would you let them eat shit. especially the shit of another species?

 

never said i LET my dogs eat fecal matter - just saying that it's not unusual behavior and no need to run to the vet. just another thing to train out of a puppy.

you are gonna have to train it out of her. if the puppy is eating her own, clean up after her. they kinda grow out of it when they get older. sometimes. sometimes they love to roll in it, and any other stinky thing they can find.

 

yeah like dead animals. I hate when my dog does that. She did grow out of eating shit though. Puppies are ignorant just like any baby. They need to be taught.

They'll do all kinds of stupid stuff if you let them. They like to drink pee too. Once when I was looking at the sky whilst releaving myself, I found that I'd pissed all over one of the pups. It was O.k. cause mom came and licked it all off.
