Hi everyone, I am writing a 20 page paper for class on the Grateful Dead and their influence/reaction to the American dream. I am thinking about describing the band's following and community, while illustrating the American dream in particular song lyrics. According to our teacher, the dreams deal with ideas of success, the frontier, and building America as a 'city on a hill'. Any input or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a good day!
and the annotated lyrics page. I can't remember the addy, but search "annotated Grateful Dead lyrics" and you'll get it. I'll warn you, most instructors have read something on the scene as a research paper. Some colleges ave courses on the Dead phenomenon. I know I did it, and after class, Kole (instructor) told me that he'd had more than 30 students start with the same idea (I was lucky, and able to tie it into living, organic scenes)
Yea, my teacher is a big time liberal, so I'm sure he knows a lot about the scene. As far as the topics go, everyone in the class has a different topic, and I am able to narrow it down to whatever is relevant. In addition to the lyrical analysis, think I might devote a portion of the paper to the impact of LSD and the likes of Kesey, Cassidy, Kerouac, etc. Thanks for the help so far...
for my visual anthropology we had to discuss and show an underground culture....i did the Phish scene and cataloged the whole Vegas 04 run.....i never got all my printed and bound photos back, which sucks...but i still have them on file.....
