I worked very late last night trying to get caught up on a few things. I left work about 08:30pm and it was raining very hard and steady, but the temp was still above 60 deg. I was parked about 200 yards from the building. I took off my shoes for the walk to the car so I would not ruin them in all of the puddles. The cool pavement felt great under foot on the walk to the car. I found this strange because I usually don't like my feet cold. I stopped at a Applebee's to get some dinner, I have never been to Applebee's without shoes before, so I wasn't sure what the hostess would say, I usually carry pair of flips in my bag if I go in a restaurant barefoot just in case I am asked to put on shoes or sometimes I feel uncomfortable in the restaurant without shoes and will slip them on. However, with the down pour of rain I did not want to carry my bag and get it soaked, so I walked in barefoot and waited at the hostess station a few minutes before she appeared, I noticed her glance down at my feet, I asked her if it was okay that I was barefoot. She paused for a second and said it would be fine. There were only a few couples in the restaurant and a few more in the bar so I felt fairly comfortable being barefoot. My waitress was great, I am not even sure she noticed that I was barefoot, the manager stopped by the table to see how my service was, he looked down at my feet a few times but did not mention my barefeet so I didn't say anything. Whe I left about 09:30pm it was still pouring rain, the hostess at the door offered to escort me to my car with a umbrella, but I told her that I would be fine. She then asked if the rain was cold on my barefeet, I told her that it was , but also felt good and that I wore nice leather shoes today and did not want them ruined and admitted that I prefer to be barefoot most of the time anyway, she laughed and said that usually the only time she wears shoes is at work and she would probably remove her shoes if it was still raining at the end of her shift so her shoes would not get soaked going to her car since she would need those shoes for work the next day.
I've always thought a good and heavy rainstorm is a good excuse as any to be barefoot. Some folks would prefer to get their shoes and socks all wet rather than just removing them and enjoy tramping through the puddles to experience the pleasure of shoelessness.
Its always nice to barefoot in the rain, especially in the spring/summer when it's warmer! Last night was a little chilly here with the rain. I love the feeling of the drops hitting the tops of my feet. It's like a little massage.
Summer/early fall being the warmer time up this way, but I know what you mean. I love the cleansing and feel of the puddles. Later we deal with snow, but that's another story. Edit: Today was puddle-wonderful, with a rather warm fall rain, so I got to taste that pleasure again!
