When I think of all the problems the CIA have created around the world like putting Saddam Hussein into power in Iraq or General Pinochet into Chile, it might be better if the whole institution was abolished. Discuss.
That would be nice, but Kennedy wanted to "shatter the CIA into a thousand pieces....", and you see what happened to him.
Neither are true. The CIA was active in both countries but to say they "put them in power" is false. So keep the CIA going.
The CIA was active all right, in 1963 the were behind the assassination of Qasim and his party supporters. In 1968, the Cia was behind the overthrow of the new non Ba'athist leader Rahman Arif. The Asia Times reported that the CIA deputy for the Middle East Archibald Roosevelt (grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt) stated, referring to Iraqi Ba'ath Party officers on his payroll in the 1963 and 1968 coups, "They're our boys bought and paid for, but you always gotta remember that these people can't be trusted" General Ahmed Bakr was installed as president. Saddam Hussein was appointed the number two man, security chief for the newly installed ruler, and became his protege. As for Chili,..."It is firm and continuing policy that Allende be overthrown by a coup. It would be much preferable to have this transpire prior to 24 October [1970] but efforts in this regard will continue vigorously beyond this date. We are to continue to generate maximum pressure toward this end, utilizing every appropriate resource. It is imperative that these actions be implemented clandestinely and securely so that the USG and American hand be well hidden..." — A communique to the CIA base in Chile, issued on October 16, 1970 And the leader of the party helped by the CIA , Augusto Pinochet.
would settle for hugh budget and staffing cuts. Private industry has to suffer layoffs, why not these clowns? Where do you think your tax increase will go to? Did you see Valerie Plame's testimony about her "exposure" by the goverment? What CIA Agent uses thier real identity? Taking credit for Hussien is a reach, He was a big boy who could make the climb on his own, and keep it going through sanctions and international parriah status, UN censure, war and the whole gauntlet. Who did up Aristide in Haiti? didn't see that on the list?
Only Americans can be arrogant enough to believe this. Kind of like when Americans say "when bin Laden was on our side"....
^^^^ Not arrogance Wacky, lack of ignorance. (And bin Laden was never "on our side", but he is a product of our interference.)
Perhaps myth, or lack of knowledge would be better suited. Not clear on what you mean by product, but he was not indoctrinated by the US. Did the Afghan Mujahideen accept the Stinger missiles from indirect channels of the US government? You bet your ass. Did bin Laden despise the US governement before, during, and after the Afghan/Soviet war? You bet your ass. What he was and what he became the US had little influence on. Helping the Mujahideen capture the initiative from the Soviet air assault was something the US did have influence on. You keep spelling my name incorrectly. It is Wacki. How would you like it if I spelled your name gshdngs? (That was a joke)
"According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise." "That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Soviets into the Afghan trap.... The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the Soviet Union its Vietnam War." U.S. National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski Bin Laden raised money and supplied heavy machinery for the mujahadeen, fighting the Soviet invasion. A problem we created. But your ID says WackyIraqi not WackiIraqy. (Smiling)
Six months after (W) said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, (he) was asked, "Where is Osama bin Laden?" (W) said, "I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned." The reason that the Bush regime isn't concerned with Osama Bin Forgetten is because Osama never had the means or capability to facilitate the attacks of 9/11. The 9/11 attacks were planned and orchestrated by the Pentagon, the Intelligence agencies, as well as insiders within the White House. Sorry, but it's true. Oh, and..."On June 5, 2006, the Muckraker Report contacted the FBI Headquarters, (202) 324-3000, to learn why Bin Laden’s Most Wanted poster did not indicate that Usama was also wanted in connection with 9/11. The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on Bin Laden’s Most Wanted web page, Tomb said, “The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden’s Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11.” The corporate media won't touch the subject.
