I hate this ban. it makes no sense at all. Most of the media stuff was hyped and a few were proven untrue yet they remained. And ALL of the accidents that led to the possible and highly likely banning were tourists, and there's been barely any accidents in other cities at all.
They're safe and there has been an investigation about the dangers by drug research people and they found out and reported magic mushrooms are safe and should remain legal; yet they're STILL going to ban them!
Well there's a protest on the dam of amsterdam next week and seeing as thats 20 minutes walking from my house I will be there with everyone I know and I hope we can make the difference even though it seems to be too late already.

I think it's lame indeed. Why not first try the idea to give it to tourists after three days. That in combination with sellers who will inform you well about the possible risks and stuff should help against flipping foreigners pretty well..

freakin tourists get lost and go bad in your own country, where the hell am i supposed to get my stuff from now hmmz?
ok lol, i didn't mean it like that. but seriously, i've noticed its only the tourists who go really really bad and get in the newspapers after they've done something stupid. i guess, amsterdam is too hard to handle in a short amount of time. red light district, coffeshops everywhere you look lots of smartshops too, you could get quite lost overthere if you don't know what ur doing.

the actual problem is not that all this stuff is legal overhere in the netherlands, but the fact that its illegal elsewhere which makes all these people come overhere and go out of their minds with very negative outcomes now and than.

There was a protest today on the dam square; but the turn up was pretty low. Most people I saw there I recognized from goa trance parties, and some other random hippies. I don't think there were more then 500 people there, probably a lot less even.

That's okay. People will still grow them. They just won't pay taxes on them.
It's not like this law is going to eradicate them from the country or anything.

I thought they had learned that lesson already.

I don't think we have to worry about that in the Netherlands, at least not in the near future. ;)

I once read something about plans to ban coffeshops within ten years, but within years a lot can and probably will happen, there will be a totally different, let's hope more liberal and peaceful climate in the netherlands. things are going down lately, people are scared of each other all over the world as it seems to me.

Look at the source of the ban.......who is in charge of the Netherlands right now? The Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). This conservative right wing religious party was voted in by the Dutch people. WHY did the Dutch people vote in this ultra-conservative party?? Have the Dutch become chicken of each other and want a big powerful nanny state?

Also remember that drugs besides alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine will never be eternally safe.......that is the way of things now. Remember why psychedelics were banned in the first place.......especially in the Netherlands. It's about power and control, not about harm prevention.

Thousands of people come every year and use the mushroom safely......in fact it is safe to say that even MOST tourists (90+%) don't abuse it or end up in hospitals. Don't let the governments themselves fool you either with their flawed statistics........they don't mean a damn thing because percentage-wise they are deeply flawed.

CDA is no conservative right wing party at all. they are conservative yes but they are in the political midfield as we call it overhere. more important is the influence that the Christian Union, a conservative party with some left-wing elements in its program., has on the CDA. have we become a more conservative country over the years?I didn't but than again, i'm young and naive

i'd like to discuss the safety-rate of the drugs you mentioned, tobacco, caffeine and especially alcohol, but I won't since its irrelevant to this thread.

Absurd ban, a few bad apples to spoil the entire bunch. We were not going to make it back to Amsterdam until the spring, but decided to come early due partially to the upcoming ban, like I really need an excuse to take a trip to Amsterdam again. Down to counting the hours not the days anymore ! Its all booked, one week and one day and I will be on my way !

I emailed Mushroom Galaxy and they said that they can't see the government doing muc except to regulate it better. But they are certainly still legal at the moment and you can buy over the counter.
