Hey, I was wondering where Canabis came from and how it spread throughout the world? I've read a couple theories, but I'm not sure if they are true or not. Do you guys know?
It's one of those questions nobody can really answer. All we have to go on are what records we have. There are mentions of it going back at least 3000 years with Shiva and Hinduism. Its on almost every continent. Its much like a weed in that it can grow in pretty harsh conditions. Its been used as medicine, religious sacrament, and one of the world's strongest natural fibers. The finest Italian Bibles are printed on it's paper. Sailing ships were rigged with it's roping. It is as ancient as anything in our history. It's only been demonized since the 1930's. x
orsino you look familiar did you happen to live in maricopa? but yah I can vouche for weed as actually being a weed I lived in india for a month and it was everywhere out there.. pocession is legal up to a oz I think.... after that I think if your white and a tourist they will kill you for it... so I didnt carry more then a few grams at a time.
Cannabis was origonally, and still is spread over ceneral asia- From the middle east to china. The chinese were the first to use it for cloth/material and were the first to document its medical use. The indians were also the first people to use cannabis, and later on the scythians, who ventured into eastern europe.
According to Robert Clarke the plant itself originated in Western China in the southern Tien Shan Mts. just to the east of the Hindu Kush Mts. The area has been in the news lately because it is where the Uigers live.
It spread along the silk road all throughout Eurasia like everything else(wheat, apples, horses, writing, cattle,ect...)
