I agree. I need a place to freak freely about my renewed love of Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc.)

    So until then...

NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind! OMG! </fangirl squee> ...Has anyone else seen that? Parts of it really reminded me of "Fantastic Planet". (For that matter, has anyone seen that either?) ...

    Yep. Indeed, uh-huh!! *full ack*

    :agree:

Miyazaki's works are among my favourites as well (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, NausicaƤ and the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro).

When thinking about CGI animation, there's of course our big green friend Shrek, as well as the Final Fantasy movies The Spirit Within and Advent Children. I also have that anime episode Last Order (sort of a prequel to Advent Children).

Fantasia is neat as well, and I also like the sequel, Fantasia 1999. When thinking about Disney, another nice piece is The Black Cauldron.
Non-Disney (Don Bluth - that other guy): Titan A.E.
Best movie with a smilie-shaped space ship: Heavy Metal!!

And then there are the cool anime series, such as: Earth Girl Arjuna, Noir, Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex (1st and 2nd Gig), Cowboy Bebop, Blue Submarine No. 5, The Vision of Escaflowne, X-1999, Elfen Lied, The Candidate for Goddess, Inu Yasha, Hellsing (the first OVA and the new Ultimate OVA!).

Slayers!! Oh yes, How could I forget the adventures of the fabulous Lina Inverse (Dora Mata!! Dragon Spooker, Bandit Killer... etc.).

And then there was the movie without dialogue, just music: Leiji Matsumoto's Inter5tella 5555 (based on Daft Punk's music - you might know the video to One More Time... that is just a part of the story!).

    So many bright-colored pictures.

    :jester:

So, here's my list of animated goodies and favourites.

"Someone tell me why I ought to watch Spirited Away please."

Gosh... hard to say. I don't mean to imply that it's a weak movie or anything (although at the moment everything seems that way by comparison to current favorite "Laputa: Castle in the Sky"), but it's hard to boil down Miyazaki. I'll try:

Great animation... good storyline... interesting character development... no fluff.

Basically, the antithesis of most of the animation that mainstream Disney has put out lately.

See a clip on YouTube or something; if you hate it, then don't watch the whole thing! I guess that's all I can tell you....
