Kenny Gradney of Little Feat (Still touring) also of Jazz Is Dead, and of the former Bobby And The Midnights (Weir)..... If your not familiar with this cat please PLEASE go catch a LF show when they're in your neck of the woods (they do tour all over all the time check littlefeat.net) The band is super f_cking tight, but Gradney will blow you away. He is truly one with his instrument. lemon
John Paul jones: Fucking awesome Eric Wilson: Sublime. I love this dudes bass lines. Cliff burton: was the bass player for metallica for "kill'em all, ride the lightning, and master of puppets". This dude had some skills until he died. If you ever get the chance to watch video of him playing it is awesome.
\m/ \m/ hail to the master! Cliff!!! You're the master! I know you can hear me! You're still the best, even if there are some "better" ones! Genious! Love the guy. He got me into "bellbotom jeans" (hippy jeans)
that awesome that there is someone else here that appreciates cliff. He was the man. I got into 3 different bands just because I could play the first 2 minutes of "anesthesia/pulling teeth" at speed.
Yeah ,I was also afraid nobody except me would even know his name He was so fuckin great on stage! Damn... I wonder what Metallicas music would be like if he wouldn't have died :-/ Still I think that McGovney wrote Anasthesia. Weird. I totaly feel about it as if it was totaly Cliff's
Speed is not important for the bass player. The best basslines are slow. We had a band in Yugoslavia called EKV. Their Bassplayer used 3 tones in one song, and made a miracle. It's all in feeling.
sure, yet if you check out like Dream Theater's bass player, there is a very nice fast side to some bass players! but slow and emotional is the way.
Yeah, I'd say Billy Sheehan of Racer X or Mike LePond of Symphony X. I don't know whats up with all the "X" names, but they're both really great. Both of them went to B.I.T. in Los Angeles, though, so no doubt that they're great.
ok this has nothing to do with the original question but meh its my thread and ill do watever the fuck i want LOL anyhoo LISTEN TO RANCIDS - MAXWELL MURDERS !!!!!!!! cliiff burton was awesome
Well, I guess Maxwell Murder is fast, but it's just chromatics. I mean, most people could do that pretty quickly.
wtf, flea? flea couldnt hold victor WOOton or claypool dick while the played... still waitin to see WOOton and claypool duel...
I think that its all about creativity. If you can create an amazing accompiament with speed, then thats great. If you do it with complex note arrangements thats great too. Mike Rutherford and Chris Squire did both thats what makes them a step above great.
^actually those are the only bass players i care enough about to actually know their names.... wait theres a couple more from local bands. Orry from www.purevolume.com/pallasathena and Brett from www.purevolume.com/PostmanSyndrome
There are too many that dont get enough Credit... In no particular order just 5 of my favorite. 1. Phil Lesh 2. John Paul Jones 3. Victor Wooten 4. Mike Gordon 5. Rob Derhak Honorable Mention Les Claypool Geddy Lee Billy Sheehan Roger Waters and than there is me of course
I refuse to play the "best _____ ever" game, but here are some of my favorites: Dave Holland (Miles Davis, Circle, etc.) Geddy Lee (Rush) Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) Holger Czukay (Can) Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, etc.)
