So today starts week 3 of my dreadlock adventures. I cant get the tips to not be curly, and there are a bunch of loose hairs. Any advice/opinions would be apreciated.

Also if anyone is in the Miami area, I'll pay for help!

I bought a kit from dreadheadhq. The thing that really healped was their "locking peppa" my friend sectioned off my hair (about 5 or so hours) and then he back combed a few and I back combed the rest. The curly tips are driving me nuts. The loose hair sucks also =/

Thanks a lot for the encouragement, every morning I look in the mirror and im like "grrr".

Tommy upload some pics so I can see.

They are looking good as far as I can see. I might would use the crocheting needle thing that was mentioned earlier to hook the loose hairs and pull them into the dread. The Lock Peppa from DHHQ makes the hair really a lot easier to backcomb, however you've got to be careful to backcomb super tight, as the lock peppa makes them seem tighter than they are. When the lock peppa is gone from the dread, you might notice a lot of loose hairs...this is where the needle comes in.

no but seriuosly dont take offense at what i said. my advice would be to stop using lock peppa. that stuff is shit. read the ingredients. you're buying artificial flakes that do the same thing that salt would do to your hair. i wouldnt want it in my hair.

also, loose hairs are unavoidable if you are going to have dreads, unless you are obsessed with hair maintenance. it's something you have to just go with. or, ive seen some people cut them short, but i think that just makes the problem worse.

as for the loose tips, some people rub the tips into their palms or hat so that they will blunt up, but it also damages the hair a lot and it can get really weak and dry when your dreads mature.

I only used it the first time, now I just back comb every so often on its own. And yes I've read the ingredients.

    Thanks Bye

The curl tips remind me of my own and ive found that they are unavoidable unless you want to spend heaps of time maintaining... over the last year my curls have bonded together on some dreads and have created a cool shape for the tips and people have greated me with compliments for it. I use lock pepper somtimes in my palms and swipe it from the front to the back of my head to help keep down the random loose hair if i need them to look somewhat presentable. it does help me for that. also, aloe vera helps too. overall i am gettin sick of putting crap in my hair though... it seems to make them heavier if i go over a few days/week with out washing them. if i could give a little advise from experiance i would say that you should consider stopping your backcombing. It keeps the hair from knoting up the way it wants to. Just do it one last time on the ones that really need it, then let trust that over time it will eventualy lock up. by the way, the dreads look dope mate, that three week pic is fantastic. give em' time and they will get to where they need to go. cheers

i say leave the loose hairs! my dreads are almost 4 months old and a lot of the loose hairs have finally started to dread on their own. it's pretty amazing to be running my hands through my hair to find a new dread baby that started all on its own. the tips are finally starting to loop up and get dready, too. ;)

I'd leave it a few months before you start pulling your tips in, depends how tight they are i guess. I find latch hooks much easier to use. I believe most craft stores do them. Your dreads are looking sic though my friend :)
