Bananas and Sleeper*. After that, too much "self assessment" on his part going on for me. How many times does he have to regurtitate that crap? It was funny in the beginning, but then it just got trite. *ETA that film, because it was one of the great ones. You reminded me.
in no particular order Sleeper Manhattan Murder Mystery Matchpoint Take The Money And Run Deconstructing Harry Annie Hall
Sleeper. And you forgot "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask (1972)". x
Crimes and Misdemeanors definitely is great. I also love "Broadway Danny Rose," "The Purple Rose of Cairo," and "Manhattan"...
I still haven't seen a few of the ones that are supposed to be part of his canon of classics (like Sleeper, for instance) but I'm gonna be an asshole and say I like the more introspective, cerebral stuff a little better. of the 8 or 9 Allen films I've seen, Annie Hall is probably the one I'd consider his peak, because it finds a comfortable middle-ground between his more 'mature' output and the earlier slapstick stuff. but I'll be even more of an asshole and say that my favorite could very well be Interiors (I know, that's not the right answer). even though I love his neurotic kvetching, I think it's an excellent showcase for Allen as a director even though some consider it more Bergman than Allen, but I still think the torpid and stately atmosphere he conjures up is really impressive. aside from that, probably Manhattan. hilarious and visually stunning, and probably one of the most flawless films I've ever seen.
