And that's a bad thing? LOL I say it's about time. There's enough atheists, agnostics and even religious people with an open mind out there to make a movie for. And so what if believers see it? I've seen xmas movies and I'm an atheist. The Ten Commandments is out now. Maybe I think that should be removed from theaters because it offends me. What do you think about that? Well the thing is I cannot have it removed from the theaters, nor should I be allowed to have it removed from theaters. Remember something about freedom of religion? The film industry has put out several religious based films and we atheists say nothing. You have a right to put out your silly films. Well guess what? We have a right too. The Catholic League acts like it's a crime to offend the Catholic Church. Wake up and smell the coffee!
i don't like prostelytizing (sp?), and i find advertising to children to be offensive. i don't think that it should be outlawed, but i find it to be in bad taste. besides, children really don't grasp the full meaning of these types of things. it's kindof like the book 'mommy, there are liberals under the bed!'
The Golden Compass is just a story. One that happens to be written by an atheist. It may display atheist virtues, but any story worth reading or watching is going to show something about the beliefs (religious, political, whatever...) of the author if you look hard enough. And naturally, being the 2nd class citizens that atheists are, religious or rather anti-religious connotations have been removed from the movie.
