Effects from the US troop surge may not all be positive. It appears that in the past six months, the income of thousands of Iraqis has been getting lower. This will affect how these men and women can provide for their family.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that’s cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

Few people have a better sense of the death rate in Iraq.

 

I thought the US's incursion in the area was to bring about a huge increase in prosperity and social improvement in the area. You are asking us to applaud the fact that the biggest industry in the area today is gravedigging? What happened to the joys of democracy?

 

I just wanted to be the first one to point out that even though there has been a noticable drop in violence and civilian deaths that the US can still be to blame. That is, under the premise that the US can do no right.
