I know more about astrology than the average bear, but certainly far less than some of you here. Anyway, I've heard that it's rare for a person to have the same sun and moon sign. I do. Mine are both Aquarius. Does this mean anything special, or different?

I am wondering what my Sagittarius moon sign means -- it is opposite of my sun sign, Gemini, so does that mean I am always conflicted (even though I am already conflicted because of my multiple personalities haha)?

Kristy... there are 12 signs so the odds of the moon being in any one sign are one in twelve... This will definitely strengthen your Aquarian nature. Look at how close the sun and moon are in your chart, if they form a close conjunction it can be a tough thing to deal with because the Sun in a sense burns up the moon and makes it difficult for you to discern your emotions.

geminijess, look at the degrees in the sign your sun and moon are. If they're close, i.e. they're basically exactly opposite each other in your chart, it will mean that often your emotions conflict with what you want to do. So yes, multiple personality is a nice way of looking at it (as an analogy not seriously!) because its like you have your main self and emotional self and since they're at conflict you may have to be one or the other at different times and itll be hard to combine the two. But check how close the opposition is!

I've posted about this quite a bit actually. Moon signs don't necessarily mean much on their own. In a chart, the sign (and degree) matters to show if the moon is exalted, debilitated, peregrine, and anything in between.

The next thing is to see what house it is in. This may slightly change the Moon's power.

I would also see what house the Moon rules - so this means see which house is ruled by Cancer. If the Moon is strong, then the Moon's house will be strong as well.

The next thing to check is what I want to find out in the chart. Some things need the Moon, and some things don't. In other words, do I want to know if there will be children, ever be married, have trouble with enemies, have lots of friends, ever have a house, be wealthy, and so on.

This changes somewhat in Horary astrology where the Moon always co-represents the person in question.

The following is a strictly natal and humanistic approach to astrology. Having multiple planets together in a natal chart is called a stellum. This is a powerful emphasis and is key to understanding what you are focusing on in this lifetime. Focus is the key word when more than one planet is together. The moon shows how we react in situations and how we feel about things. Moon and Sun in Aquarius shows a person who has to be different and marches to the beat of a different drummer. The person will look to the future and embrace that which others scorn or is on the forfront of technology. The persons feelings may not show easily and there may be some difficulty with the mother being cold to the child, or at least treating the child intellectually. The person feels they must accomplish what there sun wants to accomplish. Aquarius is accepting of all people as long as they are good people. Astrologers teach that the three most important parts of a natal chart are: Ascendant, sun, and moon. All the planets are important and if say venus is very prominent then it becomes more important in annalysis.

Having any planets in angular houses strengthens them. Gauqualin states cadent houses are strong points also.

Check the dignities of each planet to see how it plays out in a horoscope.

Don't forget the North and South Nodes.

Absolutely I agree. The moons nodes are extremely important in showing past karma and future striving. The north node is connected to what I was saying more than the south node. It's part of where our focus is for this lifetime.

In traditional astrology, the North and South nodes act much differently. For the most part, they are considered when they are conjunct with another planet.

The North node adds and the South node subtracts.

What this means, is if a planet is in a good place or dignity, then the North Node adds benevolence, and if the planet is in a bad place or dignity, then the North Node will add bad qualities.

The opposite is true of the South Node, where if a planet is in a good place, the South node will subtract the good qualities, and if the planet is in a bad place, it will subtract the bad qualities.

That is very interesting. I have heard that the only aspects to the moon's nodes worth considering are conjunctions before. I read a while ago that if the north node conjuncts the asc. in a natal chart that that person will be either very tall or very short.

I don't see that in Lilly. According to him, the lord of the ascendant in a partile aspect to Jupiter oriental or Mars oriental makes someone tall, and with Saturn occidental makes one short.

    Hi jessica;

So your Sun is in Gemini, 21 degrees from the cusp at the start of the sign, and your Moon in Sag., 9 degrees from the start of the sign. If you look at a zodiac wheel you can see that Gemini and Sag are opposite each other, but a single point within them will be exactly opposite at the same degree within the sign. So your Sun and Moon are more than 11 degrees apart from an exact opposition, which is too wide of a gap to be considered to be read as an opposition.

Sorry if that's a bit confusing. For planetary energies to interact in manners like oppositions or trines, etc. they have to be within a certain range of the aspect, otherwise it's too wide for that energy interaction between the planets to happen. So I would say your Sun and Moon aren't really communicating, although they are expressing themselves in opposite signs and houses.

With Moon in 5th Sag. you express your feelings/intuitive nature through activities, excitement, creativity, etc. and your Sun in 11th Gemini you are probably very social or define yourself in group context.
