My 3.5 year old aussie/french brittany has developed a smallish (10/32 of an inch wide) raised bump on the inside of the joint on his hind leg. The lump is hard, has a whiteish tint (kind of like a zit that hasent fully formed yet but much bigger). I don't have any pictures of it yet and I plan to take him in to the vets on friday. Anyone have any ideas or similar issues in the past? All I care is that it isnt cancer. I'm pretty poor right now and would be absolutley devestated if my little buddy has cancer and i cant afford to treat it . . .
Have you noticed it growing at all? If so, cancer is a possibility. If not, it is probably just a cyst. Good luck at the vet.
Have the vet check it out. I was worried about a couple lumps on my dog, but it ended up only being fatty tumor. It wont hurt to have it looked at though
You DO need to have it checked out - but if it helps at all I've known a lot of dogs with those types of things and it has turned out just to be cysts, or pockets of tissue that grew. However in the small chance that it is cancer you need to cough up the cash somehow and have it tested anyway, because the earlier it's caught the better, and it's better safe than sorry. Even if you don't think you can afford cancer treatment at least you can know for sure and plan around it if it is.
Sometimes scar tissue forms form from vaccinations, I.V.s an xray will for sure determine is it IS bone cancer. We recently lost our girl China to bone tumor. Turns out radon in the rocks of Colorado is really, really high. She was ready to go. And we didn't allow her to suffer beyond what she could endure.
my dog had a bump simular to your description on his back once. I poked and prodded at it and the next day I noticed it was bleeding so I washed it with a wet cloth... while I was washing it it peeled back to reveal a b-b inbedded in his skin... Maybe that is what your dog has wrong...... I really hope it isn't anything too serious, our pets are our family
It turns out it was probobly as cyst. One day i guess it poped and all i found was a bit of scab and a small wooden(?) spike stuck in the wound that it seemed had worked itself out of his skin. Thanks for all your help Cloudflower, If I ever found a BB in my dogs leg I would not sleep until I found the shooter and put them to a slow and painful death. I hope your dog was alright . . .
Hey, Daedalus, I'm glad your dog turned out to be all right! It sounds to me like he had a splinter that got embedded in his leg and festered--but I know the feeling about finding a lump--my cat Regan had a lump on his neck--it didn't seem to bother him, but it bothered me, and I had a feeling that it was something serious--anyway, it turned out to be cancer--he died this past August at the ripe old age of 18! I sort of wish I could've taken him to the vet and had him checked out--but knowing that Regan hated to ride in the car, I wouldn't have put him through all that! Plus, I don't think I could've afforded the treatment anyway--so I just made sure he was comfortable--he was ready to go--but I don't think I was quite ready for him to go, you know what I mean? Anyway, I didn't want to bring anybody down with my story--but I'm glad that your dog is okay!
