The focus of my life right now is my career and hoping to start a romantic relationship... In return chart, sun is in the sixth house squaring n.node in TENTH and squaring MC, each by 4 deg. orb, and the exact square it makes is almost the exact midpoint of MC and N.Node... As for love life.. Venus is in the fifth and Jupiter in the seventh *sigh of relief*, BUT sun which is most important in these charts is semisquaring almost perfectly venus, and Venus is squaring Mars For love I think that the Jupiter and Venus house placements will turn out to be more powerful than the aspects (I just noticed Jupiter is also 4 deg. conjunct descendant); but for career it just looks a mess. Like I'm going to work really hard (sun in 6th) only to have my greatest desires (N.Node) for career and success (MC) thwarted at every angle. One interesting thing about the chart... pretty close Grand trine of Mars (2nd) / Mercury (6th) / Uranus (10th)... this continues the theme of connecting 6th and 10th (work and success), maybe saying I can find opportunities in career (uranus in 10) through communicating (mercury) my self-worth (mars in 2nd) in the workplace (mercury in 6)... That's nice yes... but not as nice as the SUN IN 6TH SQUARE N.NODE/MC is scary! ARGHHHH!
In traditional astrology, generally the nodes don't factor heavily except for conjunctions (there are a few exceptions). According to the sources, the North Node adds, and the South Node subtracts. So, if a planet has a good placement, the North Node adds goodness and the South takes away goodness. If a planet has a bad placement, the North Node adds malevolence, and the South removes malevolence.
Thanks for replying Enlil. I think that makes sense with Nodes because they not bodies, they're technically just points in the sky, so that would make it tricky when seeing what to do with them in regards to aspects. But the Sun Square MC is still relevant right? Although MC is still a point in space! But I've seen aspects to AC and MC used all the time. Anyway at least its weaker I suppose... or at least I'm starting to think other things in the chart should be looked at in regards to this issue, rather than just getting bummed about those squares. Back to aspecting "points" in the sky... another thing to note is that both of these are axis, i.e. MC/IC and NNode/S.Node, so when you square one, you square the other, making a T-square.
The ascendant is the most significant position on a chart, and then midheaven. Generally I don't factor aspects to houses, but there are some exceptions. I think of it in terms of which planet rules certain houses. Those aspects usually matter more. For instance if the planet that rules the ascendant is square the ruler of midheaven as opposed to the houses themselves. The nodes represent the points where the Sun and Moon's orbits intersect.
Hm... interesting point to look at rulers of the asc. and MC instead of the points themselves. My Solar Return chart is Gem. Rising and Aquarius Midheaven, and Mercury and Uranus are actually in a grand trine However, the points themselves should definitely not be overlooked. The angles are inarguably especially potent places for planets to be in charts. I do appreciate your recommendation of looking at the rulers of ascendant and midheaven, don't know hwy I didnt think of that! Its actually a very interesting SR chart now that I'm looking more deeply into it. If you feel like taking a look at it let me know and I could post it.
The point of looking at planetary rulers is actually the original idea. Midheaven and the ascendant are imaginary points. The reason why you look at the ruling planets is that you can see the CONDITION of MC and ASC - i.e. weak or strong, afflicted or unafflicted. Another thing to chew on, the traditional rulers for your ascendant and midheaven are Mercury and Saturn respectively.
Yes rulers are definitely important... but planets on angles are definitely very powrful. In my chart I have Moon in it's native Cancer on the IC! Not only that, but it had a +25 degree declination when I was born! Thank god for the trine to my sun... Also, I only use Uranus as ruler of Aquarius most of the time, just I personal preference. I think for natal astrology traditional rulerships are outdated. For instance Mars energy is so different from Scorpio, it seems to be one of the worst rulership affinities... Mars is fiery, outgoing, and overt; Scorpio is reserved and subtle. Mars is directly aggressive and Scorpio is more behind the scenes aggressive. However Pluto and Scorpio fit each other very well: death, resurrection, transformation, introversion, and INTENSITY.
In terms of angularity, yes they are important. Please explain why traditional rulerships are outdated. Regarding Mars in Scorpio being passive, this is because each planet has two signs except the Moon and Sun - a night sign and a day sign. Obviously one sign will be more passive than the other since a diurnal planet in a nocturnal sign will not act the same as if it was a diurnal sign. In this case, Mars is a nocturnal planet, since the coolness of night calms Mars' fiery nature. For this reason, Scorpio, a nocturnal sign calms Mars. Aries, a diurnal sign cause Mars to activate. This is a strange example since Mars and Saturn sort of work in the opposite way of most planets.
Outer planets had not been discovered. I feel the newer rulerships declared since these discoveries are more appropriate; but again it's a personal preference.
Understood... Just curious, do you know why and how the outer planets wete assigned attributes and signs?
