Jimmy johns has their very own "vegetarian" sandwhiches, the number 6, and number 13. The problem with these is that these veggies, including lettuce are sliced on their slicers, which they slice up SEVERAL dead bodies on every single day, and isn't cleaned nearly good enough to where I would eat a veggie off. The beef fat and chicken skin hangs all over these all day and I hardly consider it vegetarian, I mean most the ingredients are, but you know theres gotta be hints of meat from that. idk what do you think?
Well...it probably depends on the manager at each store, but here, the slicer gets wiped down in between slicings. But, I've noticed that many employees do not change their gloves or wipe their knife off (because the the "so fast you'll freak" factor)
I'm sure most vegans will disagree, but I really don't understand why, from an ethical point of view, it is wrong for a vegan's food to be in contact with meat. It's not killing any more animals, so I don't believe it makes a huge difference either way. From a nutritional point of view, however, I think it's coherent. I don't let my food touch meat products because I don't want that stuff to be in my system. Just a thought. Feel free to change my mind!
Nah I kinda agree. The thing is, thats gonna happen anywhere you go, unless its a completely vegetarian restaurant. So you just have to get over it or not eat out at all. I just try not to think about it... I mean it bothers me a bit but its all good, what can ya do anyway
I just don't see meat as food. It's dead animal. It discusts me. It would be like...if people ate poop, and the knife that sliced the poop was used on your food. Wouldn't that be gross to you? I can definitely tell if theres meat juice on my food by the taste. And true, it may not be killing any more animals...but it makes it seem as if small pieces of dead animals are ok to injust. I'm really not a big fan of eating out because of this.
It digusts me too, I definitely feel ya. Its just like I like to eat out sometimes and not all my friends are vegetarian so I guess its a choice to deal with that and hope that maybe possibly they did respect that you don't eat meat... Its just up to you I guess what you're willing to give up and what you're not willing to give up... I like going out with my friends. I'm sure SOME places respect the veggie stuff, maybe?
I've worked in sandwich shops (four chains, three states, plus my sweetie managed a Spicy Pickle---they can do vegan, btw) and usually the veggies are done first in the morning, before flesh, then as needed through the day. If a shop is not wiping down the blade, that is a potential health code violation for having flesh at room temp.
Gosh i hate it when things like that happen... I mean just the other day i was at a friends house and we all went out to get chips but i couldnt have any because they fryed the chips and the fish in the same oil!! Its so annoying... Its disgusting. Grrrrr.... But i havent seen it happen anywhere else, cept in the sandwich places where you choose what you want in your sandwich. If you have salad but the persn before has meat you still got meat on there...
I try to eat at an Indian restaurant or Muslim every chance I get they have a religious value on preparing food that others don't.Indians are notorious vegans and Muslims are the cleanest when it comes to preparation of food.In a land of pork and lamb I stay healthy by reading books such as the Koran and anything Indian. These books will tell you what is good to eat.
I just wanted to get your attention because I need too know more about proper Vegan choises nowadays.I know dairy is a no-no to radical vegans, but IMO anything in an excess will kill you. So with what, and how, do you supplement your calcium intake with? What takes the place of milk?
Personally I consider there to be somewhat of a "gradient" of ethics when it comes to this sort of thing... a bigger chain restaurant (like Jimmy John's) I would expect my food to be prepared in such a way that meat touching it would be sincerely avoided, because they have the means and I'll be damned if I'm going to get meat in my food just because they're lazy or cheap. A family restaurant or something like that, quite frankly I don't really care too much unless it's a really gross violation like they're trying to get away with actually putting lard in it or something. I know that right now my personal problem is getting the establishment I eat at regularly to stop getting ham in my food. Accidents happen, but I gag if I even smell ham so it's just not cool with me.
Dairy is a no-no to ALL vegans, actually. I'm not a vegan and I do eat dairy, but to say that avoidance of dairy is strictly a "radical" vegan thing really is false... it's an animal product, and vegans abstain from ALL animal products. As far as calcium goes, you're really over-rating it and forgetting that calcium is found in vegetables too.
Thank you for the word but i am about a year here and some of these vegetables i have never seen before and Tofu is a good substitute for meat, because i have an allergy towards anything pork or lamb in origin.I am learning the names of these vegetables and such in mandarin. So in my confusion i eat where i know i can avoid pig and sheep hence the indian and muslim places if there was a Jewish Deli i would go Kosher but neither.I always thought the buddhist background of the locals would have some vegan merit but not so.I search the net for types of vegetables here i could memorize and get but it heavily depends on the season. When they prepare food even if it is veggie they cook it in animal fat. My point is if i cook at home half the time i don't know what i'm doing, so is there any place on the net that has some info? The milk has a sour taste and comes from mongolia i suppliment milk by going soy which is tasteless.
Rick, please start a new thread rather than steer this one off course. I understand you have a language issue, so I will be patient.
