In about 4 or 5 days I will be leaving with my little family and traveling for the winter. The boys are about to be turning two and one. I've never traveled with the kids before so I was wondering if any of you could offer any advice or tips on an on the road life. First we'll be going to Vermont for a gathering, down south next to the Alabama SERF gathering and then finally, down to Ocala, FL for that one. What weren't you able to live without? What helped alot? We're going by RV so it will be safe. Also, if you live in Alabama (I've never been there) what is the weather like in October? I want to make sure I'm prepared clothing wise! I guess this might be my last post here for awhile besides what I respond back to so I guess I'll say goodbye now! thanks for all the advice you guys can give.
Oh yea and I wanted to add, if any of you will be at any of those gatherings contact me and we'll meet up and let the kiddies play!
wow sounds like fun. my first concern at gatherings is clean water for little kids. they get dehydrated more easily than adults if they get hit with some weirdy parasite like giardia, so make sure that their water is clean clean clean. oh and i love this link--it covers a lot of the basics: http://www.mamarsupial.com/backpack.php
yea good one Hannah...I can see it now, two cranky runny nosed sneezy kids, no benadryl, and no place to buy it for miles! lol
You are going to have so much fun! Are your little guys good car sleepers? Maddie still falls asleep if we are in the car for longer than 30 minutes, but Virginia has to stay awake because she is afraid that she will miss something! If you going through SC at all, maybe on your way back up to PA, give me a holler! The 2 interstates in SC go straight through my town.
Ill see if we will! that would be nice!My little Noah is a car sleeper but Croix has to see all the action usually
Goodluck to you Earthy! We are hoping to get an RV and travel with our baby in year or two. I hope that all goes well, and it is a beautiful experience. What is SERF btw???
We just returned on Friday from a week long trip with 2 year old Dakota. Make sure you make frequent rest stops. Whenever we stopped we would have him run around in circles or run back and forth on a sidewalk so he could burn off some energy. We put him in pullups and pampers for the trip. I can't imagine washing underwear and diapers while traveling. We also brought his milk in the little individual serving cartons that don't have to go in the fridge. It was really hard finding restaurant food that didn't conflict with all his allergies, but we managed. Some places were very good about going to the kitchen to find out what was in things. Other places just said don't order it. Bring familiar things like blankets and toys and pillows. And yes, bring way more clothes than you think you'll need. And be prepared to have a toy or sippy cup launched at you from the back seat. Nothing like getting hit in the back of the head with a full sippy cup to stop your driving. Try to stop before the kids are hungry. If Dakota got overly hungry he would scream until we stopped the car. Hope this helps some. Kathi
we'll leave ocala in feburary prob... maybe december. I don't think I'll be back to the board until March.
WOW have loads of fun and be safe. I look forward to hearing about your travels early next year! ) Love and peace x
A wagon or a stroller. Lots of things to whipe them with. Flashlights. lots of batteries for them. Clothes blankets toys etc.
oh wow i traveled the world as a little kiddie when i was a little girl. About 2/3/4 years old. we did australia in an RV. I really remember loads of the things that happened when i was in aussie one thing which i loved as i got older was my parents videotaped the whole trip!! amazing to watch.
wow flessy thats great your parent's taped that for you... its such a good idea I think I will too. I'm sure they'd love to see it later on in life. I was hoping to be gone by now but the rv's inspection at the mechanic is still going on so it'll probably be tonight or tomorrow. Oh well... we'll be going soon I guess, doesn't matter when though as long as everything is safe and well prepared.
Hey Earthy Mama If you want a contact in Florida near Ocala let me know and I'll pm my number. I've got a big place in the country, that you could camp at prior to, or after the gathering, get showers, ect.., only an hour from Ocala, in Brooksville. I grew up in PA outside of Reading. I used to live in your area for over 25 years. Most of my family is still there. I'll be going to Ocala in February also. Look for me playing a djembe at main circle.
