Anyone into Dub Reggae? I've been listening to a lot of it lately and been really digging it. Anybody have suggestions on dub bands to listen to?
I'm not sure of the definition of "Dub" music, but I really enjoy Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper for starters. Sublime was the first band I've known to use the word "Dub" so I think these bands will fit the category. Esp. look into Slightly Stoopid....They have a very large range of music so don't let one song turn you off.
i love slightly stoopid. i wouldnt call them dub really, but i fuckin love collie man and police. they're really good songs
Dub music is characterized as a "version" of an existing song, often instrumental, using B sides of 45 RPM records and typically emphasizing the drums and bass for a sound popular in local sound systems. The instrumental tracks are typically drenched in sound processing effects such as echo, reverberation, part vocal and extra percussion, with most of the lead instruments and vocals dropping in and out of the mix. Another hallmark of the dub sound is the massive low-pitched bass guitar. The music sometimes features processed sound effects and other noises, such as birds singing, thunder and lightning, water flowing, and producers shouting instructions at the musicians. It can be further augmented by live DJs. thats from wikipedia. I think of bands like dub trio and club dub and dub is a weapon when i think of dub. but whatever..... i'm from frankfort
Thanks for the infor bro.....I didn't ever think to look it up myself and that description isn't at all what I thought about when I hear Dub. I allways would think of the Long Beach Dub allstars....with the reggae sounds of California feel.
And I live I 45 min. or so from frankfurt by the way. Either in Washington County or Louisville. But I spend a lot of time in Lexington.
yea Dub is the best, pretty trippy and relaxing too I love it. Massive Attack is good and Spy from Cairo (although I've never been able to find one of their songs for download) Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Scientist, King Tubby, Dub Syndicate, Eastern Dub tactik. there are so many. Plus just about every reggae group has a dub version of a song. True Dub is exactly like what wikipedia describes tho anything else is fake they just wanna use that cool name. Rub-a-Dub-Dub
<---One of the biggest Lee Scratch Perry fans you'll find... at least of his 70s stuff. Dude was amazing behind the boards. I also dig King Tubby and them.
The Mad Professor's Ariwa studio in south London(UK) still produces prolific Dub and he works with some of the legends of reggae including Lee Perry, Sly and Robbie, Horace Andy, I could go on but check his Ariwa site. He also tours worldwide on a regular basis. Nothing like LIVE dub!
