Well I've always figured since smoke hurts your lungs whether it be froms cigs, weed, forest fires whatever. But I've read that marijuana helps asthma. In a way i believe it from personal experience, it has always helped clear my throat out of junk, and help me breathe out my nose better. But how? and is there any good evidence for it?

I have never had problems with my asthma while smoking although I havent noticed any beneficial effects either. What it is said to do is dilate the bronchials which would help you get more air and breathe better.

lol I've never heard of smoking anything to be beneficial. I would bet you'd never hear it from a doctor!

I have exercise induced asthma, but that doesn't really mean anything to me. I exercise daily, and smoke pot nightly. It doesn't really affect me either way. I just can't run long distance. I used to smoke cigarettes, and that was really hard on my lungs.

Since I started smoking pot my asthma has since been gone. I've read about studies that says weed can be beneficial to asthma sufferers because it expands your lungs.

Note that the smoke of weed is worse for you then cigarette's though.

And it is only really "good" for asthma persons when it is smoked pure, like through a bong.
With tabacco, it's not good for you at all due to the chemicals in the cigarette actually making it bad rather then improving your ability to breathe properly.
weed opens your vains, while cigarette smoke makes them close a bit, if you know what I mean :p

I think it varies from person to person. Weed doesn't bother me at all and I have somewhat sensitive lungs. I don't smoke cigs, but I have and they were harsher for me personally.

The worst thing marijuana smoke has ever been linked to is bronchitis... a far cry from lung cancer. So yes, I'm saying you're wrong.

Doctors don't know shit. They want to give you prescriptions. Ever notice all those commercials about lawsuits against drug companies? New drugs that become popular and it seems they always end up in those commercials. Pot is good for the lungs. The paper used to roll a joint isn't great, but it certainly won't give you cancer like cigarettes. marijuana actually halts the spread of cancer. Studies proved this in the 70s, but if that got out the drug companies would lose a lot of money. I've heard people say when they had a cold pot helped with the congestion and even got rid of the sore throat.

    LOL,
then I suggest you look better :p
And it also depends on HOW MUCH you smoke.
And go on and compare them to each other.

    Read before posting dude,
you kind off really missed what I was trying to say, lol.

I dunno I've had a respiritory infection for the last few days and it is finally getting alot better. Last night I tried smoking for the first time since Thursday thinking I was to the point where I was ready to start toking again. Well it made me cough worse than I have ever coughed from pot before in my life. I wasnt able to take two consecutive hits without coughing my brains out for about 30 sec between hits. This was with a bubbler and obviously no tobacco was involved.

while it is claimed by studies that marijuana has several times as much "tar" and such substances in it than tobacco smoke, the amount always varies....i've seen the number quoted as anything from 4-25X as much particulate matter as is in tobacco smoke.

that said there is not a single documented medical case of lung cancer linked to cannabis use, and while on paper it may appear to be MORE damaging than tobacco, in reality there is little evidence to support the idea based on medical issues that arise both in tobacco and cannabis smokers.

i am no doctor, but as i understand it cannabis works somewhat as a bronchodilator, which means it opens up the passages you breathe through. this would explain why it helps with asthma. however smoking pot on a regular basis, while not shown to lead to cancer or emphysema that i know of, can lead to a cough or other irritation that is quite noticible with heavy smokers.

this probably wouldnt make it a very good medicine for severely asthmatic individuals when smoked, and the onset from oral cannabis use is far too delayed to make a suitable asthma treatment.

ive noticed that right after i take a few big hits from my bubbler that i cant breath quite as smoothly for a few minutes. ive never had asthma that i know of ive always been able to breath pretty normally. for a few minutes right after i cough a bunch it is harder to breath it seems like but it goes away pretty quick and then im back to normal and ready to smoke more.

well my best buddy has had severe chronic asthma since like birth, and the only thing that he smokes that actually helps is mullin. he coughs severely no matter how much weed he smokes, or what he smokes from, whether its from a bowl, bong, bubbler, blunt, or joint(although the blunt is the worst)

^^ That's just pure luck as the cannabis will have had nothing to do with it. ^^

    Anyway,
medicinal cannabis as described here is taking it the wrong way,
you are not supposed to smoke that alot, which *does* make it a good medicine when used properly. (also with vaporizer, no tobacco)
