    I don't have dreads......yet.
I've been anxiously awaiting my hair to grow for months now! I wish I could speed up my rate of hair growth but that isn't possible. So until then I have these questions which I can ponder.

When you have dreads, and they are just developing. (meaning you have thick and thin ones) Do the thin ones merge with the thick ones naturally, or do you have to wax them together?

Which leads me to my next question. If you have to wax/twist them together, won't they turn out like braids then??

On some websites it says it's recommended you don't wash your dreads everyday. Does this mean don't wash as in Shampoo, or does this mean, don't wash as in, just getting them wet?

For you folks that have new dreads 1-9 months. How often do you guys re-twist using the wax?

And finally, how many of you guys with dreads had them proffesionally made? Would you recommend this? And do they turn out better?

I know, it's alot of questions. You don't have to answer them all, or at all if you don't want to. But any help is appreciated!

hardly any of us use wax, because it is horrible for dreads.

the answer to these questions is in this thread: http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233383. you'll be able to find tons of information about wax in these. long story short: you probably shouldn't use it. it won't let your hair knot up, it'll just glue it together and hinder the dreading process.

How do your dreads become dreaded then if you don't use wax?

    Just by twisting them continuously?

dreads aren't twists. dreads are matted hair. bunches and bunches of tiny knots in your hair that form into big bunches of knots. dreads are all about tangles. not twists.
