Now employers can demand that you lose weight, first it was whether or not you smoked, or did drugs on your own time. Now they can tell you what you look like, next what your hair or skin color is?, or how tall you are??? http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazine/articles/2007/08/05/do_we_really_need_a_law_to_protect_fat_workers/ All based on insurance rates....are we going to allow our world to be ruled by the insurance companies. Aren't they in a business that was meant to minimize risk by insurancing risks encountered by the market. Now they are no longer supposed to encounter any risk, while mandating a norm? It looks to me like insurance companies are looking for subsidies similiar to what famers recieve. Mandate their industry and lessen their risks, while legislating norms. Pay them for protecting against risks/crops they won't insure or plant. BULL!
I read that this is to make individuals that are over weight, have unhealthly lifestyles, etc pay more for company sponsored insurance than those that aren't.
No, that's simply what they tell you. This is all about you having no control over your own body. This is them saying they own you, and that if you want to work for them in order to survive, you're going to be their slave and do as they say.
That's probably not true, and even if it were, it shouldn't be happening. If upon hire a company offers an insurance package, then they damn well better keep their word.
