i think all kinds of spirit people are cool. and that most of what people think they know about them is just something between people. i'm not so sure that worshiping or wanting to be worshiped is something i believe in about any of them. appreciated though i guess. like all of the critter people and how that makes possible for there to be us. and setting out a glass of water for them in my tokonoma. but i consider that not so much worship as hospitality. welcoming their spirits that i love to be visited by. =^^= .../\...
I am Celtic, Norse and Native American. I have ancestors from each group, and I guess you could say my main focus is on Celtic. I do not mix them in ceremonies. As for Celtic my main focus is on Danu, Cernunos, Bile, and Brigid. With Norse its Odin, Thor, and Frigga. I am 1/4 Cherokee so I pay deep respect to nature spirits and am beginning to do some research on the horned serpant they honored.
I've been drawn to Hindu gods and goddesses and Native American spirits. I'm still learning about different gods and goddesses, so don't intend to stop there.
I've been drawn to the Norse Gods and sagas since childhood, but shied away a bit because that wasn't part of my ancestry and I didn't feel right to co-opt it. As it is they are an element of my heritage via my Anglo-Saxon blood. So I'm embracing it Rest of my heritage is Celtic, so I honour those too. For some reason I've always been particularly 'fond of'/drawn to Cerridwen. I'm still reading the myths and learning though. Ultimatly all mythology facinates me, so I like to learn about the diffrent Gods.
Mostly Norse (Viking/Celtic heritage as is common in the East of England). My last name actually means "warrior" in ancient Norse, how cool is that Although I sometimes work with Thoth (Egyptian god of writing/arcane knowledge for those that don't know) when I'm doing Tarot.. for runes it's obviously Odin.
I posted celtic, though English should be under Teutonic...which should be added to the list, if it is, I will change it. Pan-European would be a good one too, since all of the European pantheons stem from the Proto-Indo-European original pantheon, with dialectual and regional changes happening of thousands of years. But any, Teutonic (german, norse, Saxon, English, etc) would be a welcome addition. Gar
i honour the gods of my ancestors, so that would be celtic and norse. but i also honour the gods i just feel drawn to, although they are not be part of my heritage, for example Aset (Isis), Artemis, and this is the same with my beliefs, they are mainly celtic, but i also feel drawn to native american beliefs, mayan, aztec and inca beliefs. but then again, maybe Aset (Isis) is part of my heritage, if the myth that says the irish are descended from an egyptian queen called Scota whos father was a pharaoh, and some of the pharaohs claimed ancestry from Horus who was the son of Aset (Isis). in which case i am descended from Aset (Isis) i guess you could say i am eclectic. blessings xxx
For reasons partially unknown to me, the "Great Big Whatever Force" manifests itself to me as the Egyptian deities. Probably has something to do with a past life, but I'm not going to start rambling into that. Anyway, I feel especially drawn to Aset/Isis, Nebet-Het/Nephthys, Djehuty/Thoth, and Sekhmet (and also have a small altar for Bast, Anpu/Anubis, and Ma'at). The ironic thing is that most of my ancestors are of Norse origin (I'm 1/4 Norwegian), and that is the part of my heritage I identify most strongly with, yet I don't feel very drawn to that pantheon. The gods are not without their sense of humor of course, and more than once I've had Thor or Odin, mostly Odin, "drop in" when I've been trying to do some informal work. But I don't think the Neteru really mind.
I worship the God & Goddess as just that, the God & Goddess. I do, however, like to use the Celtic, Norse, Egyptian & Greek pantheons. If I did worship a specific Goddess it would probably be Rhiannon or maybe Brigit.
though English should be under Teutonic. I think nomad means, British Celtic, am I right? Peace Oh yah heron what is the actual defintion of teutonic? peace
Eris Discordia Loki Odin Thor Ganesha Kali I dont worship, or even acknowlege the existance (in a literal sense) of any of these beings, though. I simply like the imagery.
You should include slavic pagan religion -> in opposite to celtic paganism, slavian paganism was resurrected but existed continuosly in Lithuania more than 3000 years. There also parts of poland where slavian religion never died and was cultivated in secrecy and survived inquisition. Our first god is Perun, second Światowid and Swarożyc. Many totems with four faces can be found in Beskidy montains: especially Beskid Śląski. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_mythology And here (in Polish) about our female Gods: http://www.free.of.pl/m/mysticearth/mitologia/sl/boginie.html Most important Hollyday is Kupala occuring on the first day of Spring.
infinite and unknown. they and i both seem happiest when i don't try to put names to them at all. which is not to take anything away from my previous post to this thread either. =^^= .../\...
Been checking on the demi gods of the Santeria Cult, its an Afro-Carribean pantheon that functions in a vaugely similar way to Greco-Roman dieties. The African saints have assumed the image of classical Roman Catholic saints. In our place we have a statue of Santa Barbara which equates to Chango. In the past, repression of pagan ceremony by authorities caused these Saints to migrate into approved Catholic images. Worship could continue under an authorized form. The botanicas have some very large statues for sale.
Heya I actually ohonor all beings, but i feel very connected to native american gods and to hindu god, thatswhy i asked my self if i could be hindu, bot im not it think. Bye Salivrah
