good list, but those bands are like, so 2002. what ever happened to the old pothead music scholar Pressed Rat? is unmasking the Power Behind The Throne really a more important cause? anyway, I used to keep up on the contemporary indie scene more, but I can't be bothered much these days. two years ago I was way more in the know about what was going on, way beyond the slick "alternative" product of whatever Arcade Fire or The Decemberists were doing. I'm sure there are pockets of good (if not very original) music in many places, but don't expect it to fall into your lap. it's a whole lifestyle and subculture, and takes dedication and a willingness to spend large sums of money on records.
im lilstening to some brand new WEEN right now. the song is called YOUR PARTY and i think its smooth as fuck with the saxophone and all that, plus their humor and such. i havent heard the rest of the album thouch, since its on music choice on time warner cable. groovy. and for a metalhead to like some kenny g type shit liek that it must be good
im now listening to the shins - sealegs. its a great mellow song. oh god now alanis = ironic came on. i can nostalgiate to this song i guess.
I listen to all types of music, Nick. Even groups you currently listen to, like Throbbing Gristle, Wire, and old Meat Puppets. I am not limited to any one genre or style. I am no less into music than I was 6-7 years ago, I just do a lot less talking about it.
Yay! I'm a fan of anyone who is a fan of DKM. Man they remind me of drinking in high school, wondering the streets in the middle of the night, and just yelling there songs, everywhere we went. What fun. flogging Molly is pretty good too.
You can't teach what cobain had, but i digress. There's a lot of REALLY good music out there, it just doesn't get much radioplay. I think it's not the industry that's fucked, it's the consumer. in a capitalist society we vote with our money, therefore what you spend your money on is what your going to hear on the radio. this is the downfall of filesharing.
I think we had some sort of lame indie rock revolution led by guys who wear black rimmed glasses and carry messenger boy bags. Please, god, we need another.
instead of subsidising the recording industry, it does not take LARGE SUMS OF MONEY SPENT ON RECORDS, all it takes if fallowing the links real musicians put up on their websites to other musician's and music making methodology web sites. which is another way of saying using your OWN imagination and brain. if you wan't another kind of genre then what you are seeing in any kind of artistic endevour, get off your spectatorness and learn how to invent one yourself. there ain't no other way it's gonna happen then somebody doing so. i would sort of think that kind of obvious. personally i'm quite happy with indies creating new 'berlin school' techno-chill, even if it's never been top 40 and probably never will. mundaneness is for twits. which is another way of saying mainstream is for the intellectually lazy. =^^= .../\...
