THIS poem is about political prisoners, in despotic countries. This poem is about the dreams of one of those prisoners

    Martyrs of the night

    One starlit night
the moon will come to sight
    taking me
    from alley to alley
    from the grapevine tree
    to the deep valley
    cliff to cliff,
    forest to forest
to the place where at nights
    behind all the city lights
    a fairy will dwell
    scarred and bare
    putting its feet
    into the waters heat
    brushing its fair, fluttered hair........

    One starlit night
the moon will come to sight
    taking me
to the end of the valley
to the place where the nights
    are filled with childrens kites
    Where the lonely oak tree
    is proud happy and free
    and stretches its hands
    over the tired lands
where a star is no longer stalling
takes to heart all your struggles and starts falling
    taking its place
    into the branches embrace.....

    One starlit night
the moon will come to sight
    taking me away from prison,
like a butterfly who has newly arisen
    to a place
    where you can't erase
    the martyrs of the night
whom you can no longer incite
    with their furnaces of blood
    care only to flood
    the streets of your kingdom
    asking for wisdom
    demanding their freedom.
    did you not see them?
    were you drunk or sober
were you awake or in slumber?

    martyrs of the night!
we are drunk and we are sober,
    martyrs of the night!
we are awake and we are in slumber,
at the end of our story
the darkness will lose its glory.
the moon will come to sight
and fill our lives with delight
one night the moon will come........

wow very powerful poem...i especially ejoyed the second stanza (the last four lines are awesome), also, "the darkness will lose its glory" is a great line...the imagery throughout the whole poem is strong...the subject is so sad but you laced it with such hopeful undertones...good piece, welcome to the forum, keep posting...
