Every decade has a legacy...something that they are known for. Be it the music, political turmoil, wars, art, fashion, etc.

The question is, what do you think this decade will be known for? Say in 20 or 30 years? What will future generations think about this time?

They say art imitates life. (Im not sure if I agree with that 100%, but hey, this is a hypothetical question!!!!) If we look at whats going on today in art, music, film, what have you, what kind of conclusion would you make about society today??

    (My opinion: not favorable)

Well, my honest opinion is this decade is a time of rapid technological advances. Nearly every decade was, but this decade has grown a lot as far as computers and other electronical devices are concerned. As far as music and art, I feel this decade is going through a rather slow period. In the 50's, 60's, 70's, and even the 80's, there was decent mainstream music. People were seen for their talent, rather than appearance. If you couldn't sing or play instruments, you were not on the radio and/or television. Today, you have to search to find new music. All you hear on the radio is cussing and other babble. I think the music reflects our time very much. We are much more careless about respect for ourselves and others. I see young grade school children walking around with makeup caked on and mini skirts, and talking to their parents and teachers like dogs.

What will this decade be remembered for? Probably not too much of anything positive. There are not even any good cartoons on television anymore, unless one pays big bucks to get a special channel. I know I will always think of this decade as the "slow decade." It is lacking in a lot, though there are some handy advances being made.

There's a lot of shit going onobviously but nothing is new, except the influence on politics worldwide of the 9/11 attacks. For the rest it's pretty much a continuation of the 80s and 90s. Except maybe that underground music is gaining in importance in contrast to mainstream music (but I'm only guessing on this). Oh, and society's getting again more grim-faced and radical, if you believe the news and papers.

Not a spectacular decade so far, if you ask me...

I think this generation is going to be remembered for it's paranoia about it's own future which is reflected in the many apocolyptic movies and tv. shows that abound. Nuclear holocosts, being ruled by technology, having our freedoms eroded and other things.

this decade? all i can think about is Bush's Amerika and how in art we seem to be regurgitating almost everything... no one's come up with much that's new, unfortunately... i feel all the time that we've hit some sort of dead end and we're still blindly prodding against it!

This is the first decade when everyone knows everything, but no one actually knows nothing. We get bombed by informations every single day, but we know less and less...And this is just the beginning.....

Man, I have no clue, we'll see it in about a few decades I guess, but I'm sure the global warming hype and all the attention green energy gets will be something this decade will be remembered for. Consumers finally get a lot of information how to be more conscious in their choices. I hope it will turn out for the better.

I'm reading everone's post, and it seems that we all feel the same. It's really sad (and scary).

Well, maybe we can look at these negatives and create something positive.....for starters, since we all feel the same way, maybe a sense of unity would be a good place to start? If we're all on the same page, we can unite our fears and disappointments and whatever to make this voice heard? To make some changes for the better?

"The world is not dangerous beacuse of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything."

"No problem can be solved by the same level of consciousness that created it."

Gotta admit this decade does look pretty dismal, but good things are happening. The voice of the left is finally being heard more than it has been in a long time, and the internet is also helping spread the truth now that we actually have a form of mass communication that can't be bought out.

I think if America ends up with another idiot republican in '08, it should be pretty clear to everyone that the elections are being rigged and that the whole idea that the American people have any control over America's politics is an illusion.

Whether we actually have the will to do something about it, though, remains to be seen.

So you're talking about 2000-2010, correct?

I ono, man. Technical advancement ( although, twenty years from now, the technical advances will override our technical advancements of the time that is now ). Other than that, I suppose it's based on the Oil War, America losing its foundation in History, I ono. Nothing too positive.

On that note, another quote came to mind:

"It has become appalingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity." - Albert Einstein (again. That guy really was a genuis)

I think we'll be remembered for:
    The wars,
    The violence,
    The Emos, Greabos and skaters,
    The pessimistic people.

    I like the music.
