Okay, I was doing pretty well with my diet/exercise... staying around 165-170. Then I found out last week I have an umbilical hernia. Though it hurts less now than it did when it first happened, it still makes me hurt when I engage my abdominal muscles. Our insurance doesn't come through for almost 3 months, so it'll be at least that long before I can get this repaired.

I don't want to hurt, and I don't want to make the hernia worse. But I also don't want to just sit on my ass for the next 3 months. I already feel all bloated and gross from not exercising lately. Any ideas on how I can exercise somehow, keep my metabolism up, in the meantime?

i would keep to light simple movements, do not hold your breath (as in bracing your body) and just try different things. if it hurts, dont' do it. if you feel fine, continue.

    heavy lifting would be out.

    maybe a stationary bike?

Thanks fitzy! I'm not as worried about making it through the next months now... I'm not nearly so sore as I was a few days ago! I think it hurt worse then because it had just torn, or just gotten worse. Either way, I must have just been inflamed and irritated. I'm still taking it easy and not doing too much lifting (def. nothing heavy!), or sit-ups or anything. Back to taking long leisurely walks with the dogs! :)
