    Hi,
So basically I'm going backpacking in Thailand and Laos for a couple of months. The route that I have picked means that I will be entering Laos in the north, crossing over from Chiang Kong in Thailand to Huay Xai, Laos.
The thing is, I've read that I can't just pick up a visa at Huay Xai, only at the Friendship bridge, and that wouldn't fit in with my planned route, although I am coming back into Thailand that way.
My problem is that I can't get a visa for Laos in advance because there is no Laos embassy in the UK. Does anyone know how I can get hold of a visa for Laos? Has anyone crossed into Laos from Chiang Kong before? Can I get a visa for Laos in Bangkok?

    Thanks alot.

    Don't ever pick a route!!!

I am sure there is a Laos embassy in Bangkok. And if things have not changed you can go overland and get a visa at the border.

Go look at the official site if you want to be 100% sure.
