I am a vegetarian college student who is trying to petition to be exempt from the meal plan the school made me get. I need to make a presentation in front of the dean to ask for this exemption. Does anyone have any ideas about what should be presented? I feel that the food in the dining hall isn't healthy for me (theres not much variety) and presently I am cooking my own food in a friend's kitchen. Can anyone direct me to resources that will help me so that I don't have to pay thousands of dollars for bad food that I can't eat anyway? This would really help me out.
What works with the dean? Has anyone made any presentations to the dean that worked before...or not? Is anyone else off of the meal plan? How did those folks do it? If health is the big issue, any help you can get from a doctor would be good. Is there a veg*an group at your school, or any other veg*ans out there? They would be a great resource. I work at a university that has an environmental/animal rights group with some great veg*an programming. This may be O/T, but getting something like that going at your school would help you and other people. The college is probably most worried about too many people going off the meal plan and losing the $$$ involved. I think that you need to show that being on this meal plan would have a significant negative effect on you.
if they have a decent selection of vegitarian options (as most schools do) say that you are vegan. Here at my school vegitartians eat pretty well but sometimes the vegan options are a joke.
