i read this in season of the witch by james leo herlihy and while it was taking place in 1969 i figure it applies today too: "what's scaring me is something peter said about the united states government. it's the single most horrifying thing i've ever heard in my entire life. he said the u.s. government is certifiably insane because it demonstrates the three classic symptoms of psychotic paranoia: a. delusion of grandeur (thinks god intends it to run the world.) b. persecution complex (convinced the other guy is out to get him.) c. repressed homosexuality (gun fixation.) what makes it psychotic is that it's gotten out of control (murders a couple thousand people a week.)" other than the repressed homosexuality thing, which with the stigma mostly removed i am sure is not applicable when talking about psychosis, what do you think?
I thought insanity was a legal term in which somebody incapable of understanding right from wrong and as a result would get let off the hook. I dont think the majority of Americans think their country is doing anything wrong, however I think they should still be held responsible for their mistake!
YAY i'm so glad someone else has read it besides me. it's amazing how thirty years later very little has changed, alas. we just switched targets.
I've been studying political cover ups and religions for quite some time now. America has gone insane and drunken with power. We basically rule the world and it is getting out of control. Everything comes to an end though, it is only a matter of time before this corrupt Empire falls. The rights that this country was based on were completely legit. Our forefathers so rightly and justly fought for them, and now are being stripped away from us. Although alot of you may blame Bush, remember he's being manipulated and really has no power. Counting 08' we have 6 years in pointless war. Way to go America!! *2 thumbs up* I fail to see how people are still so ignorant and Pro-America at this point. I mean sure, it's the country one was born in and they will fight for it, bla bla bla, typical prideful crap. 95% of these type of people are politically unaware and blinded by the media though. Go figure.
I think our leaders are drunk with power. We seriously need a regime change here in the US. Jimi Hendrix said it best " When the power of Love overcomes the Love of power, the world will know PEACE"!
Great quote. I feel the same way. Give it time though, because it's not over yet. There is a heart beating here somewhere, and a lot of love, though it's hidden and misguided by those fearful few who hold the reigns. I have to admit that I've been so out of it and oblivious to what's going on in the world that I couldn't tell you what direction I think we've been heading in the last few months.
Don't worry people, in 50 years China is going to take our place then you can bitch about them. But those 3 points have been true since the colonial days, remember Concord and Lexington happened because the British were trying to confiscate a colonial arms dump, manifest destiny that it was our god given right to expand to the pacific, the monroe doctrine in which we pledges to protect every country in the western hempishpere at a time where we could barely defend ourselves. The fact is America has always been a very "America! Fuck yeah! Coming to save the motherfuckin day!" type of country.
A president like George Bush getting to do, not one, but two terms, and no revolution coming out of the realization that elections have become completely bogus; what more proof could you need? America is as nuts as it's ever been.
And the bombing of an entire village to find one guy (Saddam).. But I'd say the whole world has gone insane, including our little country.. (Holland)
I doubt it.Yes it will be a rich superpower but the Chinese don't want to rule over anyone, except Tibet. The days of Mao wanting to take over the world are long gone. "The Meek shall inherit the Earth-but they don't want it;they'll give it back to the greedy & selfish!!!".
this view seems a bit naive to me. china has a long and bloody history of conquest. what makes you so sure they won't do it again...aside from Tibet? they have a huge population of people to provide for. i daresay, if they run out of resources, which they surely will, they will act as they always have done. and Mao was hardly unique in their history either. they've had many a warlord appear amongst them through the millenia.
These are good, but lemme update it a bit with a more "modern" flare. ok, a. delusion of grandeur (the self-appointed right to rule the world) that's pretty much unchanged throughout history though I don't think the modern elite really cares much about god, but rather...conquering god (or nature) b. persecution complex which is really a perverted GUILT complex (since they know they are guilty and thus, fearful) c. doesn't matter since they don't repress it anymore, they just persecute "gays as a whole" while practicing "gay sex" themselves. (can be googled) and then there's the gun fixation you mentioned which is more a part of d. instead of c. d. sadism (the willingness to dominate and bring all life under strict authoritarian control--or, what is happening now in our world) a. and d. are the ones we should pay most attention to because they're linked. You really can't have a. without it eventually leading to d. Even if it takes centuries.
