    I'm a vegetarian.
I don't know how long it's been that way..
for quite a while now, I think.

Haha, I'm actually much happier vegetarian.
    And I eat tons healthier.
I never liked meat much anyways.
    Except for.. bacon..

I've been a vegetarian for almost three years now (well I eat fish very rarely, and thats only because my parents make me for health reasons...so I guess I'm technically a pescetarian, but I call myself a vegetarian). I've considered going vegan, but I dont't think it would be a good idea at my age.

None of my family are vegetarian but I decided to be about 5 years ago. I've never regretted it, I feel so much better from not eating meat, not just for moral reasons but for physical reasons - it makes me feel 'cleaner' somehow, and I prefer the simpler tastes of everyday vegetarian dishes anyway.

Vegan for over a quarter of a century, JackStraw675.

The secret is going cold tofurkey. Takes 6 months to a year to get all
the animal chemicals out of your system.

Until that happens, you'll feel cravings...

In the beginning, eat a lot oily stuff and whole grains and legumes
and soy stuff, because your body is accustomed to too much
    protein and oils.

And say this to yourself, over and over, with feeling:

"My body thrives on simple plant foods."

We've all been brainwashed from birth to believe that only
animal products will make us healthy and strong and taste
good, so you have to deal with the mental part too.

I've lived off 1/20 of an acre of no-till garden for years on
    end....

Go for it. The planet will love you.

i was a veg. but my parents suddenly didn't want it anymore.. i guess because of the stuff you need to have every day, that is in meat. but when i talk about replacers, they don't give a damn.

Tofu is pretty cheap compared to meat so every once in a while I buy a pack of it to go in my delicious couscous (instead of pangasius or borrelballen) together with courgette (may be something completely different in english, I don't know), coconut milk, mushrooms, feta cheese and olives.

It's yum. And I make a big pan full of it which I can eat from for four fucking days.

    Vegan. Moral Reasons.

For environmentalists: it takes roughly 1500 gallons of water to produce 1 lb. of meat. it also takes roughly 10 lbs. of wheat to produce 1 lb. of meat, thus 9 lbs. of viable food are lost in the process. Animal agriculture contributes to about 13% of CO2 emissions...which is more than travel from all trains, plains and automobiles. Sorry to burst your collective bubble.

What collective bubble? Most of the people in this thread agree with you.

I do too, but I consume meat out of spite and malice. :reddevil:

I'm eating less meat now, but only because my girlfriend is a vegetarian and we eat together pretty much every meal.

On the other hand, I love hunting. I also could really care less about cruelty to animals; I enjoy veal very much. Dunno, maybe I'm not a terribly moral person.

Just because the turkey is cold doesn't mean it's not an animal.

"Going cold turkey" is a figure of speech that comes to us from heroin
addicts who use it to describe the experience of abrupt withdrawal from
    heroin.

It is entirely appropriate in this context.

Are you an herby? Do you only eat plants?
