I have read Do It!, by Jerry Rubin after i read Soon to be a major motion picture by Abbie Hoffman, and i like some parts and not others. He seemed contridictory to lifestyle. Jerry smoked pot yet would rather be busted then make pot legal. For working with Abbie he and Abbie had different view points. Jerry seem a little less serious then Abbie. But that is not the point of the book. Jerry made great points throughout his book. My favorite chapter is Ho Chi Mihn is a yippie agent, and the nomination and election of pigasus, the pig as president of the united states. But personally i connect with Abbie and not jerry. But i have respect for what jerry did in the sixties. But Do It! is on my top 10 list.
im in the midst of DO It right now and i really like it, its a really entertaining book w/ good insights
After the band played at my school (it was random, in the main hall) during a silence I yelled out "The War Is OVER!" Man I love that book.
It's one of my favorite books! It was the first revolution book I ever read and it totally changed my life...
I read 'Do It!' by Jerry Rubin when I was studying Politics & Philosophy at The University of Essex in 1982 & we had people like:Tariq Ali as our guest speaker. It's a teriffically energising manifesto for the alternative lifestyle & counter-culture. I've seen threads on here for Abbie Hoffman but nothing at all for: Jerry Rubin. Didn't he start the 'Yippies' or something?.
Paul Krassner actually was the one who came up with the term Yippie. and Jerry Rubin doesnt get much attention cause he became a Yuppie.
I dont have nothing against YUPPIES.......I like the black suits and briefcases they wear like uniforms, i like black BMW's, Jaguars and Audis, and being rich before 35 so that you can retire and spend your much money full time..........wow........ Jerry knew very well and was popular in the right time for the right reasons, wich were the wrong reasons of the establishment...................
I own it and read it a couple times good book I like it. Ive also read his book growing up at 37, I couldnt get through all of it because it was basically him selling out. The intro by Cleaver is classic in Do It though, I still read just the intro from time to time. In fact I got "All Power to the People" Tattoo'd on my back.
i found this book in a dusty little basement shop behind a bunch of john birch society books in their radical lit section. makes me wonder if it was planted... Hmmmmmm. do it! is a far out read though. does anyone know if it was ever reprinted? my copy is well loved and as a result is falling appart.
I haven't read it yet but probably will soon. I've been reading alot about Jerry Rubin lately, So reading what he actually wrote would be the next step.
