DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. - Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on-line and began exchanging messages with her.

Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan's

Kids are cruel little motherfuckers. How sad. I hope that family gets some major humiliation from the rest of the town.

I think they have a pretty good case for a civil suit and should make out like bandits, but nothing can replace their daughter

wow. Sylvi's mother told us that one of the best things that she had heard you can do for your preteen and teen is to not let them have a computer in their room. That was you can monitor how long they are on the puter and their moods from it.

How heartless. Pranks don't always mean to turn so devasting though. i am sure they feel like shit. Though it doesn't excuse it.

I had a friend Brian who was at a party and 5 of his friends all decided to duct tape this kid to a pole who was wasted. They were all friends and there was no harm meant. But the kids vomited and ended up choking on it and he died. Brian was the only one who's parents didn't have money so he was in jail for a number of years while all the rest got off free as can be.

Marie, i think i would have a hard time living knowing I contributed to something that, no matter the intent I am sure it would terrorize me for life

 

I Googled the story and apparently the neighbor who started the thing to begin with was the ex-friend's MOTHER. WTF???? What sick adult would fuck with a kid like that? God, I hope she gets what's coming to her because there is no sadder case than an adult who is still a bully well after high school.

 

KR- that is horrible. I can't even imagine having that mentality.

Gary- he has always been haunted by it. It was one of his good friends. Something like that you never get over.

if i ever have a 13 year old they are not going to have a computer. the thought that any youngster can just get on the internet and talk to strangers scares me. kids are dumb.

 

You think the prankster is culpable? Not even close.

While it was cruel, and most likely senseless, you cannot blame other people for one person's suicide. 13 years old may not be an adult, but they aren't children either and she knew full well what would happen when she put her head through the noose.

 

I don't think that the adults would be found guilty if this goes to court.

This was incredibley sad, but you can't blame a couple of mean kids for this girl's already existing depression and suicide. If anyone is to blame it is her parents for not getting her clinical help or better monitering her.
I rmeember when I was 13 and I ordered a bunch of pizzas to a girl's house who I didn't like, had guy friends call and pretend they liked this girl. I mean I was brutal and selfish, but I was a kid.

 

I dont see how life can be so bad that you wanna hang yourself at that age.. It seems unreal

 

I blame the suicide on the media overexposure of teenage suicides. They make it look cool man, they make it look cool

The woman who created the fake profile has not been charged with a crime. She allegedly told the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department she created Josh's profile because she wanted to gain Megan's confidence to know what Megan was saying about her own child online.

The mother from down the street told police that she, her daughter and another person all typed and monitored the communication between the fictitious boy and Megan.
