in my opinion the best italian singer ever is rino gaetano, as dreamingwight said before.
he's absolutely my favourite! he wrote wonderful songs like "aida" "il cielo è sempre più blu" "mio fratello è figlio unico" and so on... they're all great!

If you like progressive PFM (premiata forneria marconi) which also recorded a live album in USA and Le Orme were a great band too, one of my favorite.
If you like the rhythm and blues songs: Lucio Battisti.
Listen also Francesco De Gregori which is a great folk artist a sort of italian Bob Dylan. ;)

The most important italian folk artists besides De Gregori are:
Fabrizio De Andrè, Francesco Guccini, Lucio Dalla. Enjoy! ;)

    Hi all,

I have some old sound tapes with musics from years 1965-'70.
In one tape there is an Italian song, but I don't know anything about it. I wish to know the singer's name and the title of the song.
    Does anybody know this song?

    Please, listen it:
    http://wrk.freeweb.hu/italian_ballad_(~1967).mp3

    (Sorry for sound quality.)

And... unfortunately I can't speak Italian so I don't understand the lyrics, would anybody help me please...

It's a song from Neapolis i think... i can recognize the typical slang (non ci sta più -> nun ci sta cchiù)... but hemm... i've never heard this song...

the words used in the song are so common and this song is so unknown that you should ask somewhere else, i just don't know how to find the title.
Anyway, i'm pretty sure that the guy that written it was from Neapolis.

I think it will be difficult to find anybody, who knows this song... I have tried some music forums before, but nobody could help me.

He's singing about a women that is no more with him.

That song contains too much slang. I can't even understand what the singer says in some pieces of the song!!! Trust me, the quality is too bad... why don't you try to ask to the administrator of freeweb.hu? Maybe he knows what that song is.

Sound quality is bad, because the song was digitized from a very old (40 years old) tape... (freeweb.hu is just a webspace provider whereto I uploaded this song).

Just one more (two) question... What is the first/last sentence in the lyrics and what it means?

"no, nun ti voglio qiu si picatura" ?!... or what ?! Maybe it must be the title...

    Yes! Excellent!

    It means

No, i don't want you more if you are a "picatura"

well picatura is... peccatrice... someone that does "peccato"... you do a "peccato" if you don't respect the rules in the bible... but in this context, i think the singer was thinking that the girl was a... ehm... bitch.

The song title is Piccatura and the singer is Peppino di Capri. He is neapolitan but the song is sicilian. You can hear the Jew's harp (typical sicilian instrument) on the base. ;)
