I was visiting a friend out in the desert, when I drove past a small juckyard. It had about a half dozen micro busses. But, there was this one, light blue with the split windshield. It had the slopping "V" down the front. I walked around it once to check it out. It had no collision dammage and almost no rust damage. It was missing an engine. That is fine, I plan on putting a Porsche 914 2.0 liter in it. That engine is actually a VW type IV motor anyway. From what I understand, it pretty much just bolts right in. I don't really know my micro busses, but I think it is a 1967, or therebouts. I understand that they are not very safe at all, so I will have to weld a safety cage into the body. I read about a conversion like that in the Porsche magazine "Excelence". Except, they (very rich folks) cut out all the VW suspension and drivetrain; and gave it the chassis of a modern 911 with a 3.6 liter. I plan to keep it simple with a flat 4 cylinder and original everything else. I'll post some pics here later today when I get the prints from Wall Mart.
I can't wait to see the pictures. I love VW buses. I used to have one when I was younger, a 78. I wrecked it then later sold it. Wish I still had it though. I have seen some great looking buses on the VW site. Samba or something like that. I forgot the name of the site but if you are a VW bus person you know about it.
That 914 motor is not going to bolt right in, you will have to cut the body unless you do an upright conversion($$$) and find a way to hang the rear of the motor. There may be some interchange problems with bellhousing/flywheel/clutch.
VW buses are awesome, so are Mini School buses. Someone in our town has one that they attemped to psychedelically paint but it came out looking like shit. However it says "Papa Smurf drives me on it" so thats pretty cool i guess.
