About two weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of the night. I looked up at my ceiling, but I could not move a single muscle in my body (except for oddly my eyelids). It was a bizarre state of conscience. I was awake, looking at my ceiling, but yet I could not control my body and it felt like I was passing into another dimension (or state of mind). The less I fought it, I felt like I was being pulled into another physchadelic state. After experiencing this, I continued to struggle, I still couldn't move my body, and instantly feel back asleep. Is this the Alpha state? My guidance counseler tells me that the part of my brain that controls my body was asleep, but my conscience was not.
It's called sleep paralysis - in other words you are awake, but your body is still sleeping (but you can always move your eyes, it has something to do with nervesystems). It's quite common to have sleep paralysis once or twice in a lifetime, so it isn't dangerous or anything like that. But it can be quite scary. Many people feel unpleasent pressure on their chest during the sleep paralysis and even see hallucinations. I've also heard that there is usually tremendous fear involved. I have had once that kind of experience and I remember seeing little devils dancing on my floor around a fireplace. It was quite scary =D
