One of my personal favorites is Philly Joe Jones.

I really love Jimmy Cobb's drumming on Kind of Blue. He knows just how to accent the music with subtle touches.

Tony Williams is a bad motherfucker as well.

Alright Im gonna let you guys know...Jeff Hamilton. The guy is a master like no other with those brushes, so if you want to check out some swingin shit in 2007 look no further. If I could play with any drummer itd probably be Jack Dejhonette or Brian Blade if I want to get a little funky (okay, a lot)

In the New York area there are a couple of drummers worth checking out. I went to high school around the same time as they did and played with both. Joe Strasser is a fucking monster. I highly recommend him. I played in CT Regionals and States with him in the Jazz Ensemble. Back then you knew when he was a high school junior that he was insanely talented. Guy Gershoni is another. I was involved in a High School for the Arts program with him and he is another strong percussionist. Both are active in the recording and club scene up there.
