my computer has died

i won't have my own computer for a few weeks while dave either tries to fix it or replaces it. i'll be able to pop up in the evening and weekend when dave's in town. but i'm pretty much screwed on the computer thing.

 

Damn that sucks. Hopefully you can get it fixed.

 

yeah, well, dave's figuring he's going to have to get me a new one and somehow retrieve all the files from the hard drive. my daughter's first two years are on that computer. so stupid that we didn't have a back up hard drive.

 

I think my dad's lap top has just murdered my memory drive...I'm so sad. It had heaps of stuff in there.

Thats a bummer about your computer KC. Hopefully it can get sorted out for you.

 

Whats the problem with the PC? Does Windows boot when you switch your computer on?

it had a pint of beer dumped on it by my two year old. it made a sizzle/crack noise, shut off, haven't been able to get it to turn back on since.

 

Is it a desktop or a laptop?

The good news is your hard drive's probably still good.

The bad news is, your motherboard probably drowned. You can put your hard drive in a new computer, and have all your old stuff.

Although let it air out and try again. I've seen electronics recover from a bath.

Less in between the innards and the case, so that isn't ideal. But you can still probably save all the data.

*sigh* and i can't figure out how to change the outgoing message on my answering machine back to english. it's in spanish now. though, fewer people than you think are put off by that. they just leave a message and tell me to fix it.

 

I have an extra external USB laptop enclosure if you would like. Would allow you to take your old laptop drive out and use it on any computer with usb so you can see then files and images you wanted. Just PM me.

 

Those external USB bays are wonderful.

and yank's totally gonna save my life. he's going to give me that thingie for my hard drive. (snicker) to be totally honest, i was really worried about taking it down to geek squad. there's some ... questionable content ... on there. very embarrassing.

 

Too bad I already put it in the padded mailer and addressed it along with some instructions. I could have seen some "questionable content" Oh well story of my life always late, lol

The computer guy that reformatted my computer gave me a discount after he saw some of my *ahem* stuff. He sat and talked to me for two hours after he got the computer hooked back up. I was so embarrassed I just wanted him to leave. I wonder if he kept copies of some of that stuff? *cringes*
