i want to know how hard is it to learn how to play guitar. i am left handed and i do have small hands. i have a left handed guitar(a black stratocaster) that is in very very good shape i got for xmas a few years ago. is it worth a shot. i would love to be able to play like david gilmor form pink floyd(not that good but that kind of music) tell me what you think
Just pick it up, and start reaallllly using your imagination. Depending on how good you want to get, and how fast, you should plan on spending hours daily (although you don't need to...you can learn at your own pace). www.ultimate-guitar.com has some great beginner's guides and such. Learn songs by finding the tabs for them. Good luck, and have a blast rockin out!
well if you dont want to take lessons, tabs tabs and more tabs. also look up chords and scales and practice practice practice. guitars be fun!
holly shit i just spelled gilmour wrong twice..... plz forgive me so is it hard to learn if i get lessons?
I had knee surgery a few yrs back and when I was off my feet for a while I went out and bought a guitar and started teaching myself by using tabs. It def is a bit much at first but if you start slow after a few months youll be amazed at how much you pick up. I have a good friend who started playing about 6 months before I started and he was a great help to me because he was still learning and knew all the things I was going through and had some helpful hints. Its something Im really glad that I got into because I have always had a love for music and now its great to be able to enjoy it in a different way. I would say its worth a shot since you already have the equipment.
I learned with tabs tabs tabs tabs and more tabs. Like others have said, also look up scales and chords and such and you'll be playin some good tunes in a few months.
thanks.. i love music too. my favs are skynyrd, floyd, zeppelin, the who. i think i will give it a shot i mean whats the worst the could happen. who knows i may learn something about myself.
If you just want to start playing songs overnight, tune your guitar to Open D. Every fret will be a major chord. Go to eHow.com and look up "How to Play Guitar Overnight"... it's easy. It's my method I stole from Richie Havens.
Mmm learning a new intrument... tasty.... Learning an instrument is soooo rewarding if you learn it with good techinique and discipline. Mmm I'm gonna go write some music if you don't mind...
my little bro plays guitar, he's probably been playing for 1.5 years now and can tear shit up like nothing, flawless stairway to heaven, tonnes of hard shit, he's great
yeah dude I taught myself, all you gotta do is practice. The first year will be rough though, so yeah, once you get through that you'll be coasting.
thanks you all.. now i know its worth a try. well i think i am going take guitar lessons..i have a lot of friends who play so maybe they can show me something to. i like this place every other place would have been an ass to me but not you guys... p.s. you all sould hear floydianslip6,hes good from what i hear on a another post.
Honestly I think that's the best way to learn. PLaying with people, getting your confidence up then playing in front of people. The hard part is finding friends that will be patient with someone new to the intstument. Too often people get frustrated playing with newer players, I think it's a lot of fun personally cause I remember when I was there. Another tip that might help a lot. Don't overstep and try to be friggin tearing shit up before you're ready when jamming with other people. Better to lay down simple chords and bass line well, than to try and melt face and fail and throw everyone off. At least in the beginning You're too kind. I pretty much play guitar all day, serious, even when Im browsing the hipforuums im soloing over internet radio and making up riffs.
It comes with time. Don't learn by tabs!!! Guitar is not a video game, learn it right and it will reward you. Learn by ear and learn to read sheet music. Play and learn every song you love to listen to. Jam whenever and where ever you can. Find the musicians in your area who like the music you do and jam with them whenever possible. Join a local band when your confident with your improvising, writing, and 'gelling'
