I'm interested in giving blood at my school sometime soon, but I was wondering if they check your blood for THC levels after you donate it?
What is the school going to come in with SWAT and arrest you because you had thc in it? Isnt it suppost to be like partial confidential and stuff?
I used to donate blood back in highschool, and they never bothered me. Hell, a couple times I was baked when they drew the blood.
they do not pay you for blood donation but they do pay for plasma donation. it really doesnt make sence to me it seems like they should someone who gives blood because they are taking more from you. plasma is just the clear part not the actual blood cells. my friend does it at college all the time and he makes like 300 a month from it (doing it twice a week). he said they take out all the blood and stuff then they filter off the plasma and put the blood cells back in.
Giving plasma is way more intense though. You have to be over a certain weight to even do it because it's so draining. You have tubes going in each arm and a big machine in the middle that filters and then pumps blood back in. I can definately see why they would pay you to do that. And no, they don't check blood for THC.
You cannot donate bloods infected with AIDS, but it's ok to donate some THC. They should actually buy the blood from you in that case. Hell, you paid for the THC.
It's so funny some of the questions I see on these forums. I usually say nothing and just laugh silently to myself thinking "did he really ask that?" or "c'mon man, it's common sense". LOL, there are no stupid questions, but some of these are rather funny. As for the topic at hand... they do test for THC and any other kinds of possible "Toxins" within the donated blood after it has been extracted, but before it is given to another. If anything is found the blood is then later discarded and nothing more becomes of it. There is this thing called doctor patient confidentiality and while it's usually only a nurse or Lab tech that's handling the blood the clause still stands.
yea ive neve given blood it always scared me to do it :\. anyways i think they take over the amount they need for donation to use for testing purposes. they test your blood for everything and if there is anything abnormal about it they will send you something showing it. lets say someone did go in and donate blood and they were HIV positive but didnt know. they would test it and then that person would be notified that they have it. this also goes for anything else that might be wrong with your blood. when we had to do it for school i could donate because i had an ear infection and u cant donate with an active infection. (it wasnt really that bad when our class had to run the blood drive but i was on antibiotics so they wouldnt let me do it)
@DonVito= One mistake there... they do not inform you of any abnormalities. This is also confidential. Only way to find out if you are is to be tested specifically for it.
oh ok well i know they will notify you if you have a sickness that can be spread like AIDS. i know they will notify the person if they have aids i remember that comming up when we had to run the blood drive. im not sure about other diseases or anything else i just thought they would have to tell you have them if you went in to donate blood. someone that knows they have AIDS probably wouldnt attempt to go in and donate blood so i was figuring the same for other conditions.
I'm sorry Vito, but unless this drive was done in High school when you were under 18 they do not inform you period of any illness. Reason I know this is wife works in the medical industry. Now if you are under the age of 18 laws are different and they must inform your guardians of any life threatening illnesses. Sorry, I'm in a weird mood, so I hope i'm coming across the right way. I'm not trying to be arguementitive here, just informative.
this was a normal drive every year the senior class set it all up and got everyone to go to get bonus points in the class. everyone had to be over 18 to donate. it was a regular blood drive our class just had to help set it up and run the food table and all that stuff. pretty much they had our class help with it just so students would get more people to donate. im not sure exactly what happens to the blood once u donate but i just remember some things we talked about. like how they take a little more then what they save for donating to do all the tests on. it would be confidental because they are contacting you personally and not letting anyone else know what they found. i remember someone asking if they tell you if you have an illness and my teacher said they did but he could have been wrong(it was government class). it just makes sence that they would tell you if you were HIV positive if you went to donate blood. they want to stop the spread of that more then anything :\
