Question for the Muslims here. In Sudan a British teacher was arrested for calling a teddy bear Mohammad. She was jailed and sentenced to 200 lashings (If I remember right).

Do you think it was an insult to Islam or Mohammad?

Do you think it was intentional?

Do you think the punishment fits the crime?

No - she got 15 days in jail. But mobs took to the streets in Sudan demanding a more severe punishment.

I'm not a muslim, and think it's just insanity beyond belief the way these people carry on - just setting the record straight though regarding the punishment for this most foul of 'crimes'.

Maybe teachers etc going to these backward areas should get better training in local customs. I am sure no offence was meant by this lady - but she should have had better info on Sudanese 'law' before she went.

Funny how we let Muslims in the UK have their own trip, but we don't get the same consideration back.

I'm still a little confused as to why every third person can have the name Mohammad but it's complete blasphemy in other situations. The theory I came up with was that the bear, being inanimate, counted as an idol?

The muslims just do what they're told, like all humans do.New born humans are a blank slate and it depends on who "writes" upon that slate as to how they live their lives.Right and wrong become relative.

I'd give all people a little more credit than that. We all have free will.

Yeah it was pretty horrendous, i'm glad she is free now, but it is religious extremism. I think if it honestly offended them that much they should have just sent her back to the UK instead of locking her up. I wonder if it would discourage other potential over seas teachers from making a journey to help Muslim countries.

I wonder what behind the scenes deals were made by the brits to get her out?
