I feel as if most of my life I have been searching for something. I'm not sure what it is. I know this is not uncommon as I've heard others say the same things in other communities I've belonged to in the past. It doesn't make this desire any less real. I've never truly felt at home anywhere though I have tried very hard. Now I feel less at home than ever even though I'm surrounded by my family. I live on Long Island in New York with my sister and my children (my husband will be joining us in a year), we just moved here from San Diego. I know very few people who think like I do. I've been a member of hip forums for a long time now and this is the first time I ventured to see what the Rainbow Family is all about. I tried looking at www.welcomehome.org and found that they're working on some server issues. I'm going to bookmark it so I can look at it again in the future. I know that the only person who can tell me where I belong is me. I just wanted to say that I find everything I've read so far to resonate within me. I look forward to reading more and maybe, if I can ever afford it, go to a gathering eventually. *hugs to all* Jessica
The welcomehome server issue message has been there a long time...if you scroll down on the page & hit the link to Star's server, it will get you to the welcomehome mirror site. I think New York has a fairly active Rainbow scene; potlucks & whatnot...there are certainly enough Rainbow folks in & around NY.
Thank you both! I found the link and have started reading the site. I love what I've read so far! It's awesome. I'm a little sad that the NY tribe's website isn't working though.
The rainbow family is a gathering of many tribes. There are tribes of people from all spectrums of the rainbow. From people who meditate in the woods all day for world peace to people who steal car stereos and smoke crack in allies all day. Everyone is accepted and treated like family, the best thing to do is go to a national gathering get out of A camp and wander around and meet like minded people. Regional can be nice but they can be different sometimes they can be unfriendly with a lot of drug and alcohol abuse. It depends on your local family sometimes you can go to potlucks and meet up with local family but if you don’t like it don’t judge the whole rainbow family from that it is just one tribe of many. Sometimes road dogs and roaming A camps will set up camps and call it “ a regional rainbow gathering”. Which are usually just full of alcoholism hard drugs and bad vibes. If you really want to know the rainbow family go to a national. If you have children you might want to go to “kiddy village” that is where a lot families go and they have a lot of things for kids.
Thanks sidd! From what I've read we would probably be found in kiddy village at a national though I would also like to go to a regional gathering sometime. I don't have much money so I'll have to wait till a gathering is closer to home. From what I've read the next national one is in WY. I can't wait to go to a gathering. Everything that I've read so far just calls to me.
